What Knife Makes You Feel Safe?

Since the post is defense oriented, anyone who has trained in
martial arts and has been in a fight knows anything can go wrong..
you could miss in a cut or thrust, and strike a wall, belt buckle,
skull, (use your imagination) and the tip of yout kinfe is toast..

And anyone with training knows that 3.7" of razor sharp steel(the amount left AFTER the tip breaks off) makes a formidable weapon in determined hands.
AND you can STILL stab with it(just like all those folks who get stabbed with unaltered flat-tipped screwdrivers).

So you agree, it is fragile...

I can't imagine this scenario and wouldn't open the door holding a knife if it did, but to play along here's what I'd take ('cause it's my smallest sword and I think it's cool)...

Any slip-joint in my left hand as long as I've got my 1911 in my right. Yes, that's right you said minus gun. K-Bar I guess. Are you sure I can't take the 1911?

A .45 caliber knife. Really no knife gives me an " I can handle trouble if it comes up" feeling. I carry a knife for utility not for self defense. Where I live, if you pull a knife the other guy has a gun...guaranteed.

Steel hard.

Flesh soft.

As a tool, I feel safest with a distinct finger guard - like a Buck 119 or 192, Bark River Boone, Journeyman, Gameskeeper, etc - or even an old KaBar. I hate when my wet/cold fingers slip and get nicked by my own edge.

As a weapon, I also prefer a finger guard of sorts - most call it a trigger guard.

Knives are tools. My legal self-defense weapons are a lot louder. I like living in Alabama.

Yeah I agree that most knives are tools its just that the knife ads, media and mall ninjas... Sigh. However since a encounter with a knife won't be long so anything sturdy and reasonably sharp will do. btw first post here xD

Seriously, have YOU broken the tip on the Military, and if so, what the heck were you trying to do with it?
Granted, I won't be trying to stab my Military through any cow skulls in the near future, but it holds up stabbing trees just fine.
What do you do with your folding knives that is harder on them then stabbing trees?

Stabbing trees and cow skulls? Dude, I wanna party with you!

To answer the question: Remington 870 Express or Sig P220.

To be honest, knives are utility tools for me. Since I haven't had any force on force training with edged weapons, I'm just not comfortable with them in that aspect. However, in an effort to answer the question, probably my N.E.C.K. knife since it is always with my as my regular utility blade. Granted, there is a 1911 in the holster, but that is apparently neither here nor there so to speak.

I like to carry a folder while hiking and either of these are comforting.
I'd not reach for a knife to defend my home. But, I like them for out of the house as a back up for a small light-weight pistol.

I would be buck ass naked with a benchmite auto! (mystery person would quickly scamper away and no violence would ensue)
