What knife of yours performs way better than it should?

By which I mean, it performs as well or better than other higher cost, higher end knives you've used.

For me it is my Spyderco Delica II (integral FRN clip) with full spyder edge and AUS-8 blade. The particular ergos of the Delica II (thicker handle) and the full SE blade make cutting boxes, rope, laminate, etc. a pleasure. The AUS-8 steel on this model still always surprises me at how well and how long it keeps a great edge. I'm sure this has mostly to do with the serrated blade. Finally, it is effortless to sharpen. 20 swipes per side on the brown and then white Sharpmaker stones never fails to bring it back to a hair razing edge.

Oh and did I mention I paid $13 for it used? One of the reasons I sold my Kershaw ZDP-189 Leek was because I liked this spydie better for all uses. Yesterday I had to cut up a box and I had my Benchmade 14210 (Heckler & Koch) in my pocket. I'm sure it would have done a great job, but I went and got the spydie since I was at home. I knew it would make short work of the box, and sharpen up like nothing.

Anyone else have knives like this?

I'll have to go with the Cara Cara.

Compared to higher end Spyderco's like the Manix, D'allara, Para and so on, it definately holds it's own. The ergonomics are there, the G10 feels great and the overall construction is very solid. What it lacks in refinement in fit and finish, it makes up for in design. The edge bevels were ground very acute and cleanly on my knife too, so that for months all I did was strop the knife and it remained the sharpest knife in my collection. That was a very positive aspect of the knife because so many knives these days require a re-profiling to get the most out of them. This knife preforms just as good as many 100-150$ knives on the market based on my experiences with various folders. I was attracted to the knife since I saw it for it's design, low cost and materials used (G10 and high RC steel), but I got more than I expected out of the folder.

For me it is Douk Douks, Opinels and Frosts. These knives cost me between $6.00 and $20.00, and they perform admirably.

Just a plain old regular SAK Climber. I end up using it for almost all my cutting needs.

well while i dont have as many knives as many of not all of you but most of my knifes are much better than i would hav eexpected

my little box cutter i got from gerber is pretty good and teh replacement blades from themwork pretty well. ive had a schrade that i got for like 25-30ish for the last 5 years and wow that thing seems to never go dull.

another little knife i got for free actualy (was really worth liek 5) is a small sheath knife that has a very nice size to it, i havent gotten a god chance to sharpen it really well so im not sure how well it really can hold up but hey free.

and the last knife i picked up in monoco in a gift shop is a butterfly knife, not the best quality but that blade is so freaking sharp for beign 25 euros and the blade seems to be very hard (the latch always flops in and hit the knife when i flip it out and theres no mark on the blade wher it hits.

ive had pretty good luck with the cheap knifes i actualy buy.

Benchmade snody Activator

very sharp very strong one very tough knife

My Douk Douk that I got for Christmas and my Victorinox Nomad that I bought second hand from Felinevet for $10 shipped. Heck of a nice for the money!

I will have to second the Benchmade Snody Activator Limited Edition that I got but I will also have to add the Fallkniven U2.
Both of these seem to cut forever.

Ciao

CRKT Nealy Pesh Kabz, The blade performs about average. But the lock is great, It locks up bank vault secure when you open it. The lock bar doesn't jam tight against the blade even when it is opened vigorusly. (like when you reall give your wrist a swing when opening) Something even some expensive liner lock folders do. The other thing is it is ultra secure when closed. It almost snaps into the closed position.

Here is the kicker, It was on sale from SMKW for about $15

Now if they could only make a bigger version like they did with the Crawdford/Kasper folder. Which is doubtfull since the Pesh Kabz was on sale for $15

The entire line of Byrd knives work much better than they have any right to at that price. The same can be said for the Opinel line.

Like Longbeachguy, I too have an older Delica with integral FRN clip. The steel is GIN 2 with full spyder edge. I hardly know it's in my pocket, a small knife that is capable of big jobs.

little sak, blade, file/screwdriver, scissors. had it about ten years, still in great shape, gets used all the time at work. it was a gift, so free!
