What knife of yours performs way better than it should?

Carbon bladed Opinels.

Most SAKS.

Any of my Bark River knives, but especially the Golok.

Cold Steel's Bushman, Frost's Clipper, Boker's Sodbuster, Opinels, Douk-Douks, Victorinox Soldier, Farmer, and Pioneer, and my old cheap 12-inch Collins machete. It's not the bucks, but how you spend them. I'd rather have a tough old kitchen knife picked up for a few bucks at some flea market than much of what is being produced today. You will probably find that hard to believe, but...

Opinel or a Japanese friction folder (AKA carpenters knife). I have never tried a Douk Douk but suspect that it would perform well beyond what you would expect from something that inexpensive.

Benchmade Mini Griptilian! Hate to say it, but I'm fast becoming a Benchmade fanboy. This little knife has surprised the heck out of me. I bought it for about $40.00 on eBay, and other than pocket clip wear--from, for instance, scraping against a stucco wall--it looks the same as the day I bought it.

I abuse the heck out of the knife, use it to cut up boxes, packaging tape, and it's still as sharp as it was out of the box. 154cm is not a 'super' steel, but I'm pleasantly surprised with its' performance, especially on a $40.00 knife :D

Hi,
My 2 Ka-Bar lockbacks (#2745 & #2746) amaze me. They are both less than $15.00 each. The durability, lock up, and sharpness are awesome for an inexpensive knife.
Take Care..
John
