What knife question - my turn

REKAT Pioneer II!!!! what? thats not on the list??

if this isn't big enough, then you could look at the carnivore. it is bigger, but is designed as a different knife(obviously).

I'll keep my eye out for them on Sat. I think I like the Carnivore Cub more than the Pioneer, but the handle might be too big for comfortable carry clipped inside my jeans pocket.

It's no wonder I've gone through 15 pocket knifes in search of the PERFECT one! Looks like I'll have to buy another 15 before I find it. Oh well, I'm better informed now.

Have you handled an Axis lock yet?? or a 940/942?? I just received a 940, and it is a sweet knife. You might like it.

Has anyone seen the new BM 803 TSEK?

The specs sound like what I'm after. I kinda wish it used the oval hole of the AFCK-II, but I like the blade on the TSEK more (haven't looked up the difference between GIN-1 & 154CM yet).

Thoughts?

The choice between GIN-1 and 154CM is an easy one. Get 154CM. GIN-1 is a lower grade steel than 154CM. It is serviceable, but I doubt many would choose it over 154CM.

While Darrel Ralph's custom EDC seems a little out of your reach right now. Have you considered the one offered by 1SKS? Stainless handled frame-lock with an ATS-34 blade. If it has half the ergos of Darrels custom version you will find it extremely comfortable to both use and carry. The custom version rides VERY deep in your pocket and is slim as well. As far as the ATS-34 blade goes, I really don't think that Darrel and Will would let anything out that didn't pass muster. At $65, it sounds like a real bargain.

Yes, I looked at the knife-of-the-month with the blue handle. Liked it a lot, but wasn't sure it was worth the $140 asking price. I also thought I wanted a combo-edge at the time.

I like it. Someone mentioned the blade was thin, but it's .115, same as the Pinnacle.

Yeah, I read that later in the BM catalog. Only problem is, I like the blade design of the TSEK more, but I like the oval thumbhole (and 154CM) more in the AFCK-II.

Hope to see them in person on Sat / Sun, although it's a GUN show, not knife, and last time there weren't many nice knifes.

I have looked at it a couple times. It's only offered in the 420HC (from memory) right now, with the 154CM coming later.

I _really_ like it, except for the <3" blade. I kinda had 3.5" (give or take) in mind as PERFECT.

Mike

Well, Darrel's custom EDC have exactly that, a 3 1/2" blade! Sell off a few of your old less-than-perfect everyday knives, throw a few extra bucks into your budget and ante up for the real deal. Problem solved

Seriously though, at least you have your list pared down to a few possible winners. Happy hunting.

There is no perfect folder. Even if there was, I am suspicious that we would keep looking anyway.......Good luck. You can't go wrong with a Microtech btw.

Just got back from the local gun store. They had a bunch of closeout / discontinued Al Mar knives. I thought I'd find a real score, but nothing really jumped out at me.

I did get to try the Spyderco Starmate ($139) & played with the BM Pinnacle ($129) a little more.

I really like both of them, and either would probably suit me fine. They didn't have the BM750 I wanted, but the 750S, 750BT & 750SBT were in stock. Damn it!

Guess I'll check the gun show on Saturday and if I don't score something there, I'll probably order off the Internet.

Mike

Get a Spyderco Military, if you contact them you may be able to get one of the inlay models for $125. This is a GREAT knife.

Failing that an M2 710 Axis.

Have you looked at a Microtech LCC?

Good luck!

The Sebenza I saw was a large NICA 'n of 400' model. I thought I was going to like it, but it was a HUGE pain to close. The lock didn't engage very much, but it was enough to wedge itself against the blade, making it extremely difficult to disengage.

I bet this is just because it's new. I have a relatively new Pinnacle (similar lock). It was the same way for about the first 50 or 100 openings. Now it's smooth as silk opening and closing. If I grip down real hard on it, I can still get it to wedge in there and stick but that seems like a good thing to me.

jwv3 I have found the same thing with my Sebi (not even broken in yet, its a keeper) and my 750. It has taken at least 75 openings to get it a little easier to unlock the lock bar. I did dismantle and lube it right away! I like the fact that the retention of the blade, thanks to the 'stud' is quite hard. It keeps the blade closed. It does require a little more effort to open, but not much!
