What Knife to buy from Spyderco and Benchmade

I'm looking into buying myself one knife from Syderco and one from Benchmade. My question is, which should I look into? I like the Manix 2 for Spyderco, but have no idea on Benchmade. Any recommendations? Oh, and they have to be UNDER $100.

Not sure what your requirements are: fixed blade, folder, large, small, etc. The griptillian and mini-griptillians are great for the price.

Nick,

Under a hundi on the Benchmade side--if you're buying new--is the Griptilian.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, the 710 can be found for just a little more. If someone wants a Benchmade, my recommendation is the Grip if they want to spend the least, the 710 if they want one of BM's best.

The Grip is a great knife, I just think it's a little pricey for what it is. But that's just this guy's opinion, nothing more.

I'll let the Spyderco experts chime in for their recommendations.

Best,

Heekma

Ohhh sorry!!!!! Forgot to say what I wanted! I'm looking for a folder from both companies. I'd like for them to have a 3" to 3.5" blade. Thanks!

The Griptillian is great for the money and you can try out the Axis lock, just not my cup of tea.
My favorite Spyderco and also an amazing deal is the Sage1. I'm not sure why everyone doesn't have one honestly.

i may sound like a dee bag but i dont like benchmade and the griptillian seems second rate to me ive owned a mini and full size (I KNOW YOU GUYS LOVE EM so i dont want to hear it ) but spyderco makes an exceptional product if i had 200$ id spend it all on spyderco

just my .02

I have been looking into the Sage... How does it hold up for edc work?

Not relevant or constructive to the thread, Noodlefish.

OP, consider the Griptilian, I'd recommend one with D2 steel or a Ritter grip in M4 or S30V. Look around on the exchange for some deals. If you can find a couple of the Red class knives, go and get one.

Thanks for the rec.! I'll look into it.

You could get Spyderco Tenacious and Persistence and have money left over. The Tenacious has been my EDC for a couple of weeks now and it's been great.

I have to put another word in for the Sage1 for the Spyderco choice, good size for edc, fits my hand incredibly, and the CF scales look great. Its one hell of a knife for its price

I was close to buying a Tenacious up until I saw the review on it from BLUNTRUTH4U‬‎... really cut out all interest. I'm looking into the Sage or Manix 2 now... but i do like saving money; and thanks for the comment!

Exactly my thoughts!

I could not agree more. A year ago when these things went on super sale, I went out and snagged 3. I gifted 1 to a relative lost a well used Buck 119, good karma!

Spyderco Sage and Benchmade Sequel. They should both be available for $200 combined and you'll probably enjoy them both. I prefer the Sequel honestly but it's a matter of personal opinion, not a comparison of quality.

My EDC is a BM Mini Bone Collector, the thing is a tank! D2 Steel, G-10 Scales, Thumbhole and the AXIS lock. Can't go wrong IMO and mine was only $94 shipped. I do like the Manix 2 though, I had it down to the Bone Collector or the Manix 2 and went with the BM and love the knife. I'll probably wind up with a Manix soon though. :D

i jus t snagged a spyderco endura 4 last week...i love it...and fits the blade size requirement youre looking for, got it for less than $60

The full size BM 15020-1 Bone Collector has a sculpted/rib cage pattern two-tone G10 scales .735" thick handle and an AXIS lock for the 3.36" x .125" D2 blade. The handle has thumb jimping ramped for good close work. I bought mine locally for $100. And... if you can't find a Spydie, the Bone Collector has a thumb hole for opening - and that skull on it's blade could be easily mistaken for a spider - if your readers were really dirty...

Don't know what to suggest for a Spyderco - I only have two - both Natives in S30V - great, but smallish (~3" - but great steel!).

Now, if you really want a fantastic 'bang' for two bills, get a Super Kershaw - a Zero Tolerance ZT-0300/0301/0302 - $189 shipped from our own Kershawguy in the dealer sales forum here. Unreal value!
