What Knife to buy from Spyderco and Benchmade

Buy a USA made knife. Is this is going to be an Investment to sell later or a user? Consider the Case XX USA brand

I have been looking into the Sage... How does it hold up for edc work?
I've owned and sold a few knives. Nothing can kick the Sage1 out of my pocket so far. I try to carry something else and within 30 minutes or so around the house I'm switching back out for the Sage. It does everything I could ask it to all day every day. From cutting bread to splitting wood.
I've carried the Delica and Griptillian for long periods as well (as in years) but they don't come close to the Sage IMO.

Another vote for the Griptilian on the Benchmade side. I own 2 Ritter's and gave a 550HG as a gift. A knife with the Axis lock is something everyone should try. The Grip is the cheapest way to do that.

For a Spyderco I'll let the experts weigh in for the best value under $100.

Nick, both the Spyderco Para Military 2 and Benchmade 14205 can be found within $10 of your allotted budget. You would do extremely well to snag those two.

Now, if you really want a fantastic 'bang' for two bills, get a Super Kershaw - a Zero Tolerance ZT-0300/0301/0302 - $189 shipped from our own Kershawguy in the dealer sales forum here. Unreal value!Stainz

One day for sure I'll have a ZT0301, but not quite yet. I did however just buy myself a ZT0350 and absolutely love it!!!!!!!

These have already been mentioned before my post, but I'll second each of them as a good representative BM product: H&K 14205, H&K 14210, BM 15030 Bone Collector (small), BM 707 Sequel (very small, under 3" blade), BM full-sized Grip (Cabelas' D2 is within your price range).

For Spyderco, the Manix 2 is well-liked by most and gives you a different lock to try (ball bearing). The Paramilitary series is outstanding but a new Para 1 will be $ than you listed and the Para 2 is out of stock right now. If you can pick one up from the boards here in your price range, I'd vote for it. The Sage 1 is a great EDC. It's part of my rotation along with a small BM Bone Collector. The Sage 2 works just as well if you like RIL locks, but it's a bit pricey. A CF Caly 3 would also be great but you'll have to get a "pre-owned" one if you want it for under $100.

Since I'm always spouting something about the Benchmade Bone Collector, I can't believe I didn't do so already in this thread.

The mini Bone Collector would be in your budget for a Benchmade and I think it would be a swell example of the breed as well.

Just another thought,

Heekma

The 707 sequel is my favorite BM (I collected all 7 versions of it I like it so much), it's a little classier and thinner than the grip, and I personally like the blade shape better. But I will say the grip opens and closes like butter. Both are great knives.

If you can tack on an extra $15 - $18 for the knives get a BM 710 and Spyderco Military. Two flagship examples of these companies.

At your exacting blade length requirement - go for the BM 940 and Spyderco Endura 4 G-10 FFG.

If you just can't squeeze out the extra few bucks for the first 3 - buy them on the forum exchange at your price point! :)
