What knife turned you on to modern folders?

It was a Cold Steel 4" voyager tanto point - serrated no less for me. Boy, I thought that knife was the sh1t at the time. Back then they were using an asymetrical handle and an integral handle clip under license by Spyderco. I think I still have it somewhere.

Buck Crosslock. First blade a spear point, the second one a serrated sheepsfoot. An excellent knife! Never had a problem with the liner locks on either blade.

SS Spyderco Dragonfly. I still have it and carry it on occasion. Would love to get a carbon fiber version of it....

The Gerber Applegate/Fairbairn covert folder. I paid WAY too much for it and it ended up being a piece of crap (lost a couple of the tiny screws and the lock detent fell out, also the linerlock travels all the way over. Also, very hard to sharpen and didn't hold an edge all that well for some reason). Despite these flaws, that knife showed me the magic of Sal's pocket clip invention and the convienence of one-hand opening.

Serrated CF Dragonfly seems to be available here. If you figure 2000 yen for shipping, the total cost would be something like 91 dollars and change. Hope that helps.

Benchmade Mini AFCK original one with Spyderco hole. Still one of my favorite folders.:)
Mine is still going strong and it's one my most-prized knives. It's the knife that replaced the forgotten Delica mentioned above!

I sure wish that Benchmade would pay Spyderco whatever is needed to license the superior round hole...since I'd love to purchase an Axis-lock AFCK. Oops, sorry about the slight thread drift.

hmmm I don't know. I never bought a "tactical" folder until the mid-90s when I started reading Blade monthly. I don't remember the model, but it was a Kershaw of sorts.

Up until that time I wasn't really a knife-knut like I am today. I loved knives and used them all the time, but it wasn't really a passion, it was just something that was always there. At that point the only knives in my collection were a few Buck 110s, Vic SAKs and an old Camillus Stockman.

Fortunately, I had enough experience with the high quality Bucks that I knew a good knife and never bought into the cheap, cool looking knives that so many people start with.

My grandfather gave me the first Buck 110, and he's a traditionalist. Nearly 90 years old and carries a Buck 110 on his belt every day. Though he admitted to me once that he likes my Sebenza.

I bought a Spyderco Police in 1990, and it was my EDC for 12 years—for when I couldn’t carry a fixed blade.

I had no interest in folders until I saw the Spyderco Police, and have only recently replaced it: first with a SERE 2K, and now with a large classic micarta Sebenza.

Spyderco Endura for me. I bought it from a Smoky Mountain Knifeworks catalog I received when I was 17.

I converted to modern folders when I bought a Kershaw Leek, followed closely by a Benchmade mini Grip.

I got one off eBay on a whim about 3 years ago. I wasn't really in to knives before that. I had a SAK and a 110 knockoff that I'd carry hiking or backpacking, but nothing EDC or "modern" 1-handed. I found BFC looking for more CRKT info and was completely in awe of the doors that it opened. It's all been downhill from there.... :D I used to think that the $30 for my Gerber EZ-Out was big money, and now it seems perfectly reasonable to want to save up $400-500 for a custom folder

By your definition I guess it would be a serrated spyderco Harpy. Long since gone to the knifeshop in the sky.

I first bought a stainless-handled serrated Spyderco Rookie. It went everywhere with me. I still have it but over the years have come to prefer PE blades.
Now if Benchmade pade Spyderco some royalties, I'd love an axis-lock Syper hole knife (......or a Sebenza with a Spyderhole come to think of it......I digress :) )
