What knife was your first "flipper"?

Kershaw Skyline . The best flipper without bearings .

Bought my Kershaw Blackout from a sporting goods store in 1994. EDC as the only knife til 2004 and lost it in NY City. Went to a proper kinves shop for a replacement and it was all down hill from there.

It appears that Kershaw and Zt are the most popular flippers. Doesn't anyone carry a butterfly knife anymore?
When you say "flipper" these days your going to get exactly what was described in this thread.

Like you my first flip open type knife was an old Bali-Song I bought in the late 70's. If you want to talk balis go to the knife specific topics and its bali heaven. Balis are what first got me on bladeforums.

If you want to talk flippers prepare for a flood of Kershaw and ZT examples.

My first flipper was a Kershaw 1910ckt. It had a slide button on the side which unlocked it for closing. Somehow I cut my finger on that bastard. I shelved it for years and rediscovered it two years ago. It's been within reach of me ever since.

Its the knife that awoke the flipper crave in me.

First knife with a flipper lever/tab was a Buck Vantage Select Large I believe. The same knife almost cut my thumb off due to a dumb mistake on my part. Have kept the blood on it as a reminder to be careful lol.

CRKT M16-03Z was my first flipper that I can remember. Great beater knife for $30-35...used it to open tons of packages, bags of feed, etc. Love the profile of that knife....always preferred a slender profile, but something at least 1/2" thick. Doesn't take up too much space in the pocket, but you have plenty to hold on to. That knife carried great, but it's retired. :D

I also have a little Buck assist opener from Wal-Mart that I got 10-12 years ago...it has a flipper tab, but an a/o flipper isn't quite the same to me. A good flipper with no spring and a strong detent is much more pleasant to use than an a/o, at least for me.

Now days, I usually either have a Sebenza or a flipper of some sort in my pocket. I got a Shirogorov recently, so that one's getting some serious pocket time.

This Kershaw Ener-G. My first not-junk knife and flipper. It remains a part of my collection but has been retired.

My first flipper action knife was the brous blades reloader. A real awesome beast of a flipper. I'm not so sure what the flipper fascination is all about right now because it seems for a knife to be considered "cool" it must have a flipper action. I like all the actions and really my favorite is the microtech DA automatic OTF. My ultratech lives in my pocket and its pretty much the only knife I like to carry on a regular basis. Love the heck out of it.

Kershaw scallion and leek. To very fine knives. Got the scallion as a gift and bought the leek a couple weeks later. Two of my first entries into the knife world.

Gerber Torch, way back in 2007. I really never put together how much it is simply a downsized XM-18, but here it is next to my XM 3" slicer.

This Columbia River Knife & Tool M16 (flip or use thumb stud):

Me too! It didnt hold an edge for squat, but it was fun to play with. I carried it in my back pocket and it actually got a slight curve in the handle from my fatass sitting on it!

LOL! I still wanna get me an M-16. It looks like a great banger if you can find one at a good price.

I always wanted one of the M 21 but never bought it because of the low edge holding capability of the M-16

Does a Kershaw Leek have bearings?

No sir. Just phosphor bronze washers and a Speedsafe torsion bar.

I think my first flipper was a Kershaw Clash. Before that I used a Buck 110, and even tried my hand at a horrible, busted ass bali.
