What knife when fishing on the boat?

I very rarely fish on a boat as I'm a fly fisherman..... but a knife for fish/fishing duties is still the same IMO. I use a cheap Rapala fillet knife for well...... filleting, and these:

Yes you certainly would.

The knife second from the top. Bob Dozier yes? Sorry, I'm a newbie to handmade knives as well as this forum. Someone else directed me to the Dozier web site, as well as other makers here, and my eyes were summarily opened.

Nice collection ya have there.

I usually carry a leatherman when im out fishing, usually a Kick, Wave, or a Freestyle CX. The pliers are nice for when the hook gets deep

Cascade_mtn, yes it is a Dozier Fillet.
A non-typical flat ground blade.

To be honest, if catch & release fishing, my quality needle nose pliers get more work than any knife.
Add the kiddy scissors on my fishing vest, to cut braid, I'm ready to go.

Understand completely. My forceps are much the same way unless I'm getting skunked. Then the nail clippers get used...... a lot. Sometimes it seems all I do is tie on new flies all day long.:o

something cheap that i won't mind if it goes over the side.

a stainless Mora Clipper 860 fills the task nicely.

My brother was fishing with me in my boat. He used my knife, dont remember which one, most likely a Rapala fillet knife, to cut the tag end off a knot he just tied. Then I watched him toss my knife overboard.

J. Marttiini finland fillet knife. Not only is it dirt cheap, but it has to be one of the sharpest knives I own. The edge does not last long, but it sharpens
easily

I often bring along an old J. Marttini as well. I have 3 of them in various lengths that I have had for 30+ years that I have amazingly have not lost. Sometimes I bring a Dexter Sanisafe filet knife or a Spyderco (Masahiro) MBS-26 filet knife. I carry a Spyderco Salt Tasman, mostly for cutting line & rope.

did you throw him over the side to go get it?

i'd never lend him another knife again, brother or not.

Most of the time, my boat is a kayak, and here's what I have on me.
