What knife would you choose in an emergency situation?

I always carry a SOG Pentagon Elite II as a back up knife to a Colt Combat Commander which is my every day carry firearm.
It sports a 5" blade and it will serve its intended purpose as a back-up blade.
For sure I would prefer to never get into a knife fight though I have had some qualified training some years ago.
For a SHTF type of Emergency...right now I have a TGLB attached to my B.O.B. and I have developed a lot of confidence in that knife.
I did have a MNSFNO attached to my pack but, I very much needed to trim off "hump weight" wherever possible as far as my B.O.B. is concerned and the TG is still a large knife but, lighter.
Ideally though my 1st choice for a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI knife would be the NMSFNO.

Since selling my GW, SS and BAD, and MUCK I have not been carrying a fixed blade as much. I still have my CABS, but for some reason, don't edc it much.

I normally have a few traditional folders on my person, and a strong modern locking folder.

Both of my vehicles have heavy duty shovels, and both have heavy duty tire irons for prying.

I have not really left any of my nice INFI in my vehicles for a long time! I just have too many car prowls and no lock box in either vehicle.

Neither of my vehicles have a trunk, so that might have something to do with it.

I do often leave machetes and hawks in the vehicles though, because they are cheap!

I like options...

A large folder in the pocket (today its a Strider SMF)
Leatherman Charge TTi on the belt.
A Malkoff MD2, and a HDS LE 200 on the belt/in pocket.
And a TGLB in my emergency bag in my car.

Once I get my Rucki, that's going in the trunk strapped to my emergency bag too.

Depends on the situation. For work....I'm a federal investigator....I carry something along the lines of a Hinderer or Wilkins folder. In the vehicle I have both a Strider kabar(CPM 3V steel) and in my edc bag(also in the vehicle) I have an OTK 6" bowie as backup....not to mention the many and various firearms that are standard!! On the trail I carry some form of large chopper or bowie....think Matt Lamey, Charlie Edmondson, Mason Leeth or David Williamson of OTK(sensing a trend here?)....coupled with a smaller fixed blade for camp work....also from Charlie Edmondson or Erik Fehrman. I love folders, but when the rubber meets the road in the woods or in a defensive situation....it's fixed blade all the way.

H&K Nitrous blitz I. The pocket, NMFSH on the pack, which I live out of and is in reach 23 hours a day, and looking to add a small fixed to the roster.

This thread has certainly shown that when it comes down to it, the TGLB and the NMSFNO are the two most popular Busses for a SHTF situation. Maybe it is just me...

I carry a Zermeno Azrael in my pocket everywhere i go, and i have a TGLB in my truck

If i have my hiking pack with me, it has an AK47 and a 1311 on it

Well, for a number of reasons I can't generally leave a blade in my work vehicle or carry one on my person, not even a multitool (though there is a small leatherman in the very bottome of the glove box.... ;) ). If I am on one of my longer work trips/operations then this of course changes as well.

If I am out in my Landcruiser there are several sharp things available.... a Gerber folder lives in the back, there are two Fiskars axes and a folding saw, when I enter odds are there will be "folder of teh week" on me, more and more an Emerson A100 or ZT350 plus a Busse fixed blade, this can vary but it is generally better than 50% that it will be one of my Fat ASHs. If I am off hunting there willl be more than this, at the very least a 1311 and RMD.

Only folder I own is a kershaw cryo. It opens my packages well though :)

I keep a B-11 with kit in my truck, along with a machete with first-aid kit. I always have my Cold Steel X2 Voyager and sometimes my Spyderco Tenacious on me, and usually my tan/camo S-9 and S&W .40.

woodworld, that's my actual Azrael... you must have done some serious sifting through old posts to find that ;)

It's by far the best folder i've ever owned, and the only folder i've ever even handled that's better is an XM18... For the price, it's a must have

Due to where I work, I really can't have anything that could be considered a weapon on my person or in my car. So, whatever folder I have in my pocket is all I would carry. For now it is a decent but cheap CRKT Point Guard. I may be placing a few other folders in small compartments in our cars just in case. I've never found myself in a situation where I was unhappy to have a knife* and quite a few where I was.

*the one exception was my tiny SAK Classic that is on my keychain. I was trying to get into the Pond to watch the Wings play the Ducks and they wouldn't let me in w/that on my keychain.

Always in my pocket since I snagged it.

Thanks man! A kid in Australia made the handles and sheath for me. The guy has some talent, this sheath is one of the best fitting knife sheaths I own.

A Rodent Solution rides in the van with me. An Urban Grudge lives in my 'man bag'. I sometimes swap that out with a Rodent 4. I went on a photo shoot out west a little while back and packed the FBM for the trip. A Battle Mistress is an essential part of any photographer's kit.
