What knife would you use in a survival scenario?

If you were in a 72 hr+ off grid survival scenario what one knife would you trust to fill the role of a survival knife? To make kindling, to prepare food, make a spear, make a shelter or to battle a zombie (just kidding with that last part). I personally would trust the TOPS silent hero. Looking forward to hearing your feedback!

A lot can happen in 72 hours. Animals and treacherous terrain can be serious factor’s depending on where you are.

Yeah. But knife is possibly the least most useful item in those uncertain conditions.

A phone for example might be handy. A tent, some food, a lighter. All would make a 72 hr survival situation easier than a knife.

I'm working on a custom Swiss Army Knife design with the following features:

o Satellite phone and antenna
o 10 gal of water
o Blowtorch
o Two room tiny cabin
o 72 hours of emergency food
o A fully equipped and staffed trauma center
o Wifi
o A pair of exceptionally enthusiastic Dutch women who have a thing for half-Filipino, middle aged chubby guys
o Large spear point blade
o Large clip point blade
o Reamer/awl
o Can opener/small screwdriver
o Cap lifter/screwdriver
o Corkscrew
o Saw
o File
o Scissors

Do you have a kick starter page?

I don't, that's the point or lack thereof. When fatigue and stress set in, swung machetes can slip out of hands and people can slip or trip over poor footing.

The .mostly unnecessary tip of a machete is better off removed to avoid accidental injury which is more common and potentially devastating than you might think.

Injury avoidance is a top priority in a bad situation with no help available.

Could also be used as a scraper or crude shovel tho.
Thanks for the info

If of course you knew you'd be in a longer term position in the wilds and had the luxury to choose (unlikely) then energy conservation would be a major factor. A very well balanced blade would then come into its own. I find swinging a machete such as a Tram "low energy" so in a tropical environment it would be a decent call.

Where I am (Northern Europe) not so much, thinking about it I'd probably choose my My parang heavy duku chandong. It's not particularly awkward to carry (on my rucksack) and it's excellent balance allows you to use less energy when doing heavy work/chopping, much better than a small Axe or larger knife of similar weight. It surprised me how well it chops with such little effort if you hold in a machete grip, letting the blade do the work. I've differently sharpened the first 2" too and it copes with finer work very well.

Personally when I read the OP I took it as a joke and an attempt to sell a knife.
I’m not trying to sell a knife. I have no affiliation with TOPS. I'm just asking people what knife they would use in a survival scenario. But reading it again, I can see how it can sound like I'm trying to sell the knife🙂... but I'm not

I think the 72 hour time period and putting a time frame on survival really negates the realities of the situation.. do you know how long you have.. does time really even matter. Staying content and comfortable is key. 2 hours or days.. your gona wait around to get rescued/help until your so depleted you can't even attempt to self sustain..

Or are we talking a 72hour " youtube survival challenge" lol
72 hours PULS survival scenario. So at least 72 hours
