What knife would you use?

I'm sort of surprised by how many folks would use "larger" knives for their whittling.

I realize I'm not the world's greatest whittler but I'd never have completed a ball in cage or chain links with a large blade. The large blade is fine for stock removal but a small blade makes the fine work so much easier.

Unless some of you are just talking about just whittling a stick or piece of wood down to shavings.

Just my opinion...

Sodbuster Jr. yellow handle CV would be the one with me. Since its always in my pocket, I just need to gather my fishing gear and I'm ready to go.

If I had my Case Seahorse Whittler in my pocket, that is what I would pull out. If I didn't have it on me, it would be either my Queen Whittler or my 8OT stockman. As for using a larger knife, I don't have a whole lot of choice. My hands start going numb pretty quickly using small knives, even the Queen whittler. It takes a bit longer with a larger handle.

I can relate. My left thumb is still tingly from a couple hours whittling earlier. (Working on a rooster.)

Guess you're right Ford, though I'm thinkin' an axe might be more apropos. LOL! (Well, you can't blame a guy for tryin'...Sigh...)

Jacknife,For whittling,this seems pretty good.

Vince, that is just awesome.

Good thing you got Elliott and I redirected. At times we deviate...the verb that is, not the noun. Robuck's in charge of that. :)

would I really use that grandaddy barlow for whittling? No. Did I just want to show off my new slippie from scratch? yes:D

Here's my real whittler

I would use whatever I had in my pocket, which is usually a Case CV Mini-Trapper.

Normally I'd say my Case Bonestag Peanut in SS. However, ever since I got my SAK Sportsman a few days ago, I've been carrying it exclusively, so I'd probably use that. Such a great little knife. A lot of tools and functionality in a small (84 MM) package. Not to say I've retired my Peanut or SAK Cadet. Not at all. I just like the way the fuller handled Sportsman fills my hand. I can get a better grip on this knife then the ultra thin Cadet, or my shorter handled Peanut. I'm sure it would be very comfortable whittling with it, and I'm sure I can skin a Crocodile or Alligator with this one as well. LOL. I might get the chance to do so soon. I'll fill you guys in on how it handles THAT.
