What knives are good gift knives?

The mirror finish on a Rockstead TEI S DLC makes a statement as gift; if you're rich LOL.

I seriously need to find some better friends. The only knives I've been gifted are cheap pieces of junk.

Nice... :rolleyes::foot::yawn:

Work and buy your own knives if the ones your "friends" gift you aren't good enough.

I keep a handful of SAK Classics, SAK Cadets, Moras, and RAT-1's and 2's on hand, and I gift them when appropriate. Over the years, I've probably given away 40+/- knives and never had a complaint about any of those - even non-knife people usually tell me they love 'em. Some non-knife people actually become knife people - and that's the whole idea!

One year I bought a bunch of Spyderco Bugs - I gave them out to some people at work and a few friends, and took some to a JK Gathering.

I still have people mention "that little knife you gave me, I still have it and use it...."

I also gave out Vic Classics one year, and I know at least a couple of those are still coming to the office every day.

Giving knives as gifts is dangerous, imo. Sort of like gifting somebody shoes. Just no telling if the person will take to it. It's actually harder if the person is into knives...

My experience as well. I gave my father a SAK Classic which he's never used. He still opens parcels with his housekeys. Also gave a shamrock SAK Classic to a good friend of mine who happens to be Irish. To this day he still uses a cheap Ladybug clone. My mother never used a single knife I gave her, come to think of it. The only people I give knives to these days are known knife fans.
