due to obscure image, knife remains unknown.
but it appears to be a dive knife with a flimsy nylon sheath..
speculating it's something along the lines of this chinese made dive knife

I don't mean to sound rude, but aren't you the same guy who posted in #162 that they would be better off with a fire axe in case of helicopter crash as the most likely situation? The cutlery industry has come along way since using an ole' file sharpened by a blacksmith and there were a lot of things the pioneers got by with but I wouldn't recommend a flintlock either. I know what you are getting at and your heart is in the right place, I just think you may be underestimating a good knife and the pilots who carry your servicemen, as last time I checked "helicopter crash" didn't rank that high on uses for most pieces of cutlery. especially considering almost every RW aircraft in service has multiple doors and many travel with them or the ramp open anyway... why cut a door when you can just hop out one?

Yep that's me. Fellas, I am seriously armchairing it here. Believe it or not, I think about this very stuff all the time. I actually went through a phase of making Mora sheaths that I felt would work for a serviceman. I am a big fan of the Mora but I mentioned it in some thread years ago and those more knowledgeable about life in the service (which is a whole lot of people) said the knife would be good but the sheath would never pass muster. Well...the gauntlet was thrown down...and I made this.

So yeah, I'm busted. I sit at a desk, collect knives, sleep in a bed every night, put orthotic insoles in my shoes every morning before I take my medication, and participate in Internet threads like "What Knives to Special Forces Carry?".

Busted. I do not think you're being rude at all.

I am a big fan of the Benchmade Adamas...I have two. Again, I like to think about what I would provide people that serve this country. The Adamas would be a very good "piece of kit". Problem is, I go through moods. I also think about what I would have provided to the Lewis and Clark expedition. Given how well prepared they were and how well that went, the only thing I can actually improve upon is their trade goods...blue beads...more blue beads. They had the best rifle in the world at the time which even in 1803, was made with interchangeable parts. Every man made it home with a fully funtional firearm and ammuntion for it. I like to think about stuff like this.

So I was probably rude by calling this thread absurd...because I enjoy them so much...regardless of what the substance of them may be.

Rock on fellow armchair strategists! Rock on those who do or have actually served this country! God bless America. Long live the Internet!

They carry what they want to carry.

99% of the companies which say "used by SF, SEALS, etc" do that by shipping some of them to the unit. Yes, they get used, to open boxes in an office somewhere. Doesn't really mean that they are strapped to SEAL Team 6 when they go on their next mission.

They like nice stuff but are not really knife nuts by default, some will be, some won't be.

I am under the impression Israel is very serious about their army and their equipment, interesting to see they use 440c and not some new "super" steel.

Have you read the thread? Repeatedly it has been pointed out that Special Forces does not equal knife nut, let alone steel junkie.

Super steels don't necessarily matter to them.

Just to the steel junkies among us.

Reading the book by the controversial seal unit member, he said he carried a Winkler tactical fixed blade and an entry hawk. He said guys carried quality gear. That Gerber or United special forces whiz bang special was probably not on their gear.

Yes I have read the thread, did you read the post I quoted?
It is about a knife being developed for the special forces not like the rest of the thread about what they buy individually.

although its not some amazing new "super steel" 440c is still a very capable steel more than enough for a tough folder blade such as that one, not to mention the cost of production. way less for something like 440c than it is for some of the new vundershteels.

Of all the spec ops I know most carried bm's , but they where all gifts from family. The others carried cold steel fixed blade) or what ever cheaper blade the could find, a lot of them didnt really care...

Its not a knife for afis so the supersteel comment is just a gratuitous snide remark.

well, the seals are the best of the best, and you would want the best equipment for your solders. when i think of the best, cold steel doesn't jump out at me. :p

LOL, Seals are the most famous of the SF units, BUT being the best is a matter of opinion, As someone else said , they might be the best combat swimmers, But best all around , well if that's your opinion more power to you. Fact of the matter is different SF units have different specialties, It just so happened a few folks said the hell with OPSEC and decided to write a tell all about the killing of bin laden and now people want to know everything that team 6 has. This is way off topic , but the fact that they would even talk about the OBL raid , well it's an embarrassment to anyone in the SF or SpecOps community, both past and present . The term "quite professional" was coined for a reason, and I guess to some money means more than the lives of themselves , their famiiles and more importantly other SF soldiers still in active duty around the world right now. I did state in an earlier post that as a young man I wanted what the seals had, and that came from always hearing navy seal this navy seal that. I promise you there are units in the US military that are either equal if not more highly trained than team 6...

If you don't mind me asking ...how many do you know? It seems like a pretty broad statement overall to say considering there's what? 40,000 sf soldiers in the us alone (just a rough guess) and from all the ones I know, they all carry something different, and most pick their own rather than just carry whatever their grandmother gave them for Christmas. It may be true that most sf guys aren't knife experts, but most still like knives and carry one they consider appropriate.... Almost certainly, most care.

maybe i should have been more specific about being the best of the best. best meaning of that specialized group and best of the best which can be widespread into other specialized groups. if that doesn't make any sense, it doesn't matter because i'm not very articulate. anyway people are too serious on here. good day sir.
