What knives do you absolutely not like or not understand the hype? I'll go first.

Lets keep this thread respectful (if your feelings get hurt easily move on). I just thought is might catch some interest. lets roast your most disliked brand or type of knife.

So I'll go first. Hinderer is the one I just don't understand the hype on, I have owned 9-10 and none of them have met my level of expectation for the price (sold em all). They seem clunky and unrefined like a 80's dodge truck. 2 of the Hinderer knives I've owned have needed sent back to "The Ranch" for warranty. I've never had to send any other knife back to the manufacturer and my collection is large. The flipper tab is hideous on most models, it reminds me of an infected growth that would need removed with a trip to the doctor. Rick absolutely floods the market with his base models screwing resale. All the oem and aftermarket special additions/add-ons makes some knives look like an over accessorized Jeep wrangler with 10" lift & large collection of dash ducks. I get it, we all don't like the same thing and that's great. At the end of the day its your money and If you want to pay $150 for a dog paw tab filler tab (exaggerated) that cost Rick $3 to make its great for his economy and hopefully he is doing some good things with that margin. Rant over.

Lets go BF, roast away. God Bless

Here's a couple for easy, low-hanging fruit. Ban Tang's ultra overpriced shivs and The James Brand. One makes self defense shivs at hilariously stupid prices, purchased by Instagram pocket dump people, 99.9% of whom don't know and haven't ever trained in the martial art they're designed to complement, and the other has been making stupidly expensive knives for years by mystery Chinese makers* who portray themselves as a hipster lifestyle brand.

Plenty of other offenders, but these two came immediately to mind.

* I think even their claimed "Made in the US" knives are Chinese as well.

This isn't a roast, but I've been thinking lately about knives I just don't bond with. Specifically my Spyderco Ed Schempp Persian. I got the first version of it in 2003 or so as a present from my girlfriend at the time, and I carry it and even use it sometimes. It's a beautiful knife to look at. It's even comfortable to hold (too skinny for me but it's ok). I just hate cutting with it. I don't get on with the backswept blade at all. I don't prefer backlocks and I don't like em in the middle of the handle. And it's so "nice" that I don't really want to put it to work, not that I have a lot of knife work to do outside of the kitchen these days. So yeah. Beautiful piece, sentimental value, completely impractical for me.

I’ll play! The OZ Rosie! Ugliest knife ever made 🤣🤣🤣

How dare you! Look how amazing my golf putter looks! 😂

OP, as much as I like Rick’s knives my XM-18 20CV is the worst steel I’ve ever used. It chips, rolls and rusts just looking at it. They’re cool knives tho, I like my Eklipse.

We’re all so darn lucky to have so many options today. These three below really do it for me. I love milled handles and these three patterns are among my favorites.

To answer OP’s question I’m going with todays overpriced Benchmades. The osbourne 940 is the modern folder that got me into this hobby and my first high end knife. I love it and still own it. But I don’t understand Benchmades overpriced knives today. They just don’t compare with similar priced knives like CRK imo.

Now I want the golf putter version 🤣

The Puuko design. I understand how important a hand guard can be, especially in the outdoors and miles away from transportation while on foot. I don’t understand why anyone would want that style handle tapering down to the tip, practically begging to cut your hand. I mean why not just get it over with and hold it by the blade? 🤣

I have never understood the strider folders. forget about the maker. im just talking about the knives. over sized awkward handle and smallish blade with a clumsy placed start of the edge far from the handle. doesnt hold well doesnt cut well. looks silly. add in the ridiculous prices that make emersons look like a steal....... I just dont get the love for them.
