What knives do you absolutely not like or not understand the hype? I'll go first.

Just generally , folders that are made to seem overbuilt , beefy "tactical / hard use " ; but have weak locks and /or other functional weak links .

Not gonna name any brands or models . In your hearts , you already know . :p

You hush your mouth right MEOW, liner locks are the strongest, and folding knives are totally what a spec-ops SWAT/SEAL magician unit Tier-1 guy thinks is best for CQB wetwork!

Well... this is gonna be a tough one for me.

It's the PM2. I love the knife and design. It's the darn side to side play (I have six) in all of them I don't care for. Or the lanyard tube being pressed in the scales.

I've tried messing the screws and washers many, many times and they just don't ever have the side to side dialed out without becoming too tight to open easily.

I have never understood the strider folders. forget about the maker. im just talking about the knives. over sized awkward handle and smallish blade with a clumsy placed start of the edge far from the handle. doesnt hold well doesnt cut well. looks silly. add in the ridiculous prices that make emersons look like a steal....... I just dont get the love for them.
How dare you attempt to denigrate the perfect knife design? Three inches of sharpened edge on a nine-inch long folding knife is literally the perfect design. Check yourself, sir.

🤣 🤣

Of course , only Cold Steel can do this ! ☺️
Joking aside, Cold Steel irritates me so much. Most of their knives could be considered somebody's forever knife if it came to that. Somebody could buy say, a Code4, and an AD10 and they're literally never going to need anything else outside of choice/wanting. EDC, food prep, yes, self-defense, the works. Strongest backlocks, entirely decent steel (S35vn, though even their AUS10A is good), every single Cold Steel I've ever bought was sharpened by somebody who wanted to make sure you're able to split atoms if you wanted to give it a shot, and so on. Plenty of makers making great knives out there and I own knives from most of 'em, but if I had to sell my entire collection for some catastrophic economic reason and was only able to keep one knife, it's almost certainly going to be one of my Cold Steels. Even that would be a hard decision, because of just how good all of them are. So for me, probably an AD15, though my Air Lite would probably be a strong contender for second place.

Sorry, back to talking about brands we DON'T like. 🤣

Spyderco knives are ugly, but they grew on me, lol. Kind of like a bulldog. So ugly it's cute. I was loving my two Benchmade mini-griptilians when I bought them, but now the shape of the handle doesn't appeal to me. I don't know why, but I prefer thin handled flatish scales. But the ugliest knife I own is a Kershaw. I have no idea what possessed me to buy this knife. I'm almost 100% certain I was sober when I bought it, but I cannot stand this knife. So it opens cardboard boxes. When I'm feeling merciful. It looks like they ground it wrong and still decided to sell them.

Um...

No, I get it. I can understand the appeal of most knives to somebody. Maybe I don't fully grasp the religious affinity some hold towards traditional patterns, but I like 'em, too. I mean, there are some things I won't buy for myself, like OTF autos, but I understand why they sell. Hmm...

Ah, I know. I dislike carbon fiber. There. /thread

I was going to say the same thing Shai. I got hooked on the Metal Complex guy's YouTube channel and a lot of the knives he likes are to me too much like gas station knives, even though I KNOW they are super quality. But he does like the pocket anchors (among other things he likes).

Bark river knives. Over priced and poor qc.
MAGNACUT ISN'T TOTALLY STAINLESS!! A LITTLE PATINA IS FINE!"

- Scumbag Mike Stewart in raving hysterics, screaming at someone who had posted up over on the DLT Trading Facebook group, inquiring as to why their brand new Magnacut BR knife developed a patina after light use.

Lets keep this thread respectful (if your feelings get hurt easily move on). I just thought is might catch some interest. lets roast your most disliked brand or type of knife.

So I'll go first. Hinderer is the one I just don't understand the hype on, I have owned 9-10 and none of them have met my level of expectation for the price (sold em all). They seem clunky and unrefined like a 80's dodge truck. 2 of the Hinderer knives I've owned have needed sent back to "The Ranch" for warranty. I've never had to send any other knife back and my collection is large. The flipper tab is hideous on most models. Rick absolutely floods the market with his base models screwing resale. All the oem and aftermarket special additions/add-ons makes some knives look like a over accessorized Jeep with 10" lift & large collection of dash ducks. I get it, we all don't like the same thing and that's great. At the end of the day its your money and If you want to pay $150 for a dog paw tab filler tab (exaggerated) that cost Rick $3 to make its great for his economy and hopefully he is doing some good things with that margin. Rant over.

Lets go BF, roast away. God Bless

I agree 100% with your take on Hinderer. HOWEVER, my 1982 two-tone yellow/white 318ci D-100 Dodge truck was incredible. And I’d still have it if some 50-ish Houston housewife hadn’t plowed into the rear end @ 50mph! (Apologies for the rant.) 🙃
