I was around when Ban Tang was just a regrinder & I just have to say no one can put a laser sharp edge as he can, not even Tom Krein (the master of the regrind). I bought a couple of his regrinds & they were just outstanding. I never bought one of his shivs though. Here's a couple for easy, low-hanging fruit. Ban Tang's ultra overpriced shivs and The James Brand. One makes self defense shivs at hilariously stupid prices, purchased by Instagram pocket dump people, 99.9% of whom don't know and haven't ever trained in the martial art they're designed to complement, and the other has been making stupidly expensive knives for years by mystery Chinese makers* who portray themselves as a hipster lifestyle brand.
Plenty of other offenders, but these two came immediately to mind.
* I think even their claimed "Made in the US" knives are Chinese as well.
I've never had the need for an OTF knife, and the guy at the knife store was really trying to push one on me last time I was in. Oh, the quality, oh the action, etc. Yeah, but I don't want that type of blade, and don't really need that type of action.Page 11 for a seemingly hot topic, that's impressive, another company ill never buy from is an microtech otf, apart from being illegal here, and the cost, id never look to one to handle an "edc task" i much prefer a manual folding knife with a good liner lock
in 50 years of being on this earth, I've never needed to raid anything. I doubt that's going to change in the next 50. Some are cool to look at though. All of the “tactical” knives, folders, autos or fixed.
Saying tactical these days is like all of the
“ turbo” branding in the 80s. Hype. Especially when most of us will never be in a “tactical” situation.
Looking at my rotation while reading this thread has me feeling like my soul has been spine whacked into a thousand pieces.![]()
Homer's favoriteThe "Dessert Warrior" trend. C'mon, people.

Sanded with 220 grit sand paper then gave it a “ghetto stonewash” (rocks from my front yard and wd40, throw it in a bottle, put it in the dryer until desired finish is achieved).Wait, how did you get the writing off the Bush Ranger? I have the same knife and I'm digging the more minimalist look there.

My two cents on this topic is Medford knives. I bought one & immediately sent it back. THICK behind the edge & it was just a heavy brick in your pocket. It was the grind you would put on an axe, but in a folding knife.

"Tactical " does not necessarily imply fighting with the knife . Never did .All of the “tactical” knives, folders, autos or fixed.
