What knives do you absolutely not like or not understand the hype? I'll go first.

My biggest pet peeve when it comes to GEC is this. I'm not looking to purchase a knife as if it were a rare baseball or Pokemon card. I'm not going to play the scarcity game for a knife using 17th century technology. I'm not buying a knife to take a picture of it next to its shipping tube it will live in, a cigar I won't smoke, and a bourbon I won't drink.

As for Spyderco...they are nearly soulless and pretty damn ugly. Form should follow function, but at the going rate they are asking, I am fine expecting a bit more aesthetics. HOWEVER...damn are they sharp and well made. I can't think of a knife that has kicked more knives out of my pocket than the Para 3 in Cruwear. Like, if I am honest, I really can't think of a better EDC knife for me for 99% of the cutting tasks I can expect to have to handle. I sorta hate how much I love it, because it does NOT sing to me.
I’m the same way on GEC. They're perfectly fine traditional knives for the factory prices but I’m not going to pay 100%-200% secondary markups on average to own one. At that price I can just about buy a traditional made by a friend or acquaintance that will blow any GEC out of the water.

They’ve become the beanie babies of the knife world. People pay outrageous prices for them because they heard it’s the thing to do.

I somewhat agree with you on Spydercos but I’m function over form on my carry/daily use knives. I don’t really value looks too much on a user when I buy one. I haven’t found consistently better users in my hands yet. I carry a PM2 probably 85%-90% of the time.

I used to say the same thing about Spydercos but then I bought and started using a PM2 three or four years ago. The ā€œSpydie holeā€ is the easiest configuration I’ve found to open with gloves on since I don’t really care for autos. Plus it just fits my hand perfectly. They’re great users but admittedly some people go a little over the top chasing down all the flavor of the week color combos.

It’s also cool that they do collabs with a lot of different designers. Some of them are hit or miss but at least they keep things from getting boring.

I was in the same boat as some on this thread. I hated the way spydercos looked, the hump was too big for pockets, etc., etc.

I caved and bought a PM2. I used it next to a few other knives and that settled it; I'm a fan now. They're ugly but they work better than most, imo.

So, youre disputing the army, not the knives victorinox issues them?

E-gad! Imagine if the swiss army decides to go with another cutlery vender??😱🄶
WOW! I think this would be the beginning of the Apocalypse! Could you imagine if the Swiss Army adopted a Spyderco for their military issue knife! What would we call them?? 🤣

No hate, but in the ā€œjust don’t get itā€ category I’d have to say Randall. They have some style, some history, and are well made by most accounts, but all that added up doesn’t seem equal to the lengths people are willing to go, to wait, and to pay, to get one.

I have never understood the strider folders. forget about the maker. im just talking about the knives. over sized awkward handle and smallish blade with a clumsy placed start of the edge far from the handle. doesnt hold well doesnt cut well. looks silly. add in the ridiculous prices that make emersons look like a steal....... I just dont get the love for them.
You just about took the words from my mouth. Lots of money, lots of handle, and a cutting edge roughly equivalent in length to a Delica.

Also, Half Face Blades. Lots of money for a slab of S35VN (which is otherwise fine, in and of itself) and gaudy handles. I know they're made well but they just look like the metric ton of Pakistani knives you can find for sale at any gun show or flea market. Plus, the ones I've handled have too much contouring on the handles such that they could only be comfortable being used with gloves. That may be a valid selling point for some, but I just can't get past it.

Embellishments put on knives in the name of knife art.
Some are cool, others downright gaudy.

At least those knives are still usable as a tool, until they laser cut the blade and but a hole in it.
But I guess many of the knives here never get used anyways.... So one you simply can't use.......
......well it's still dumb in my opinion.

When I was buy
If you’re selling everything thing you make and have a seven year backlog of orders, well then you don’t need to innovate.
Only one or two models appeal to me and I own none, so I’m not saying this from a fan perspective.
Well said. Much the same can be said about the Chris Reeves operation in terms of selling out their production runs and having a long wait for factory orders . . .yet . . .

They seem to be exploring and innovating, albeit slowly. A few new additions over the years and always looking for a better steel . . .but not rushing to bring in something new just to have something new for the Blade Show.
