I have one Leatherman multitool. It binds up hard when closing the handles around the pliers and requires a very heavy squeeze to get it closed which it does with a hard "snap". Something gone out of alignment, who knows. It has never been abused and oddly developed this problem. I've never taken the time to try and analyse the cause, but it doesn't inspire me to buy anything from Leatherman again.
I’d like to narrow this down - Microtech OTF’s. Actually Microtech anything. There are many OTF brands that are easier to operate and don’t treat their customers like crap-farming peasants. To say nothing of its owner and his god complex. I owned one, and it was nothing to write home about. One of the few acquisitions I couldn’t wait to unload. Now you couldn’t give me one.OTFs
All well and good, but I have no receipt, can't even remember what year and where I bought it. Going to a post office is a one day a week opportunity for me in heavy traffic, long line at the post office, plus the gas, shipping cost. Just not worth it for me. One day when I have the time I'll try and figure out what is binding and maybe fix it myself. It still works, just annoying hard closure.Wow. You’d think a company that large would have excellent warranty service to take care of problems like this.
Oh, wait a second…
Well, you found it worthy of discussion, that's a start....I don't like this so called "tanto" blade style. Maybe it is useful for something that I haven't discovered yet.

Are you saying that your everyday knife requirements DON’T involve stabbing multiple ammo cans into submission?!? What the heck!Likewise. The only time(s) I've found the American Tanto uniquely advantageous is using it to scrape an expired registration sticker off of a windshield. Now, if I had to stab an ammo can I wouldn't hesitate to grab one.
You really are a "glass half full" kinda fella, aren't you?
The one time I sent one in I did not have a receipt. I just sent it in and they fixed or replaced. YMMV, but I thought it was worth the effort. All well and good, but I have no receipt, can't even remember what year and where I bought it. Survey says, knives that have a pocket clip nearly as big as the handle.

That flat end section is superb for the kind of scraping g and prying that happens in auto and heavy equipment repair.I don't like this so called "tanto" blade style. Maybe it is useful for something that I haven't discovered yet.

This is what I like about the American tanto. It’s easier to slice with the corner edge over a drop point/clip point. Although the latter seams easier to sharpen.Use the edge corner to open boxes, cut paper, leather, etc. Almost as easy as using an Insingo (Wharncliffe or Sheepsfoot). I think single bevel Tantos are super useful.
