What Knives Exceeded Your Expectations?

Folder: Mini-Manix. Like Pageophile was saying, this was the one that ended my EDC search (although I still carry my BM943 on dress occasions).
Fixed blade: Fallkniven A1. I heard it was .25" thick, but it really doesn't hit you until you heft that knife just how much steel you have in your hand. It's just awesome.

Mora 2000, Victorinox OHT, Cold Steel Voyager. These knives just work and none are expensive.

Without a doubt my all time favorite is my Benchmade 710 with 154cm, also never owned a bad SAK!!!

Hi,

I've been lurking here for a while and I thought I'd enter in a bit.

I have two knives that have exceeded my expectations. Both are "cheap" knives. The first knife is a Sheffield liner-lock folder that came as part of a 3 piece multi-tool set that my daughters bought for fathers day about 5 years ago. It's 4" closed with a 3 1/8" blade. The multi-tools were not very good, but this knife has taken a real beating. It holds it's edge very well, tolerating cutting 12ga copper wire with little complaint. I've used it to dress, skin and cut up several deer, numerous pheasants, ducks and geese. It has become the knife I carry when I expect hard work from a blade. Cost: about $9.99US for the set. So let's call it a $2 knife.

The second knife is a simple little Okapi 1979E. I've only had it for a month, but it's become the knife you'll find in my pocket. Light weight, easy on my pocket, and all I really need for those little mundane everyday tasks. Plus, I like the "oldness" of the design.

While I have owned better known knives, (Schrade, Case, Buck). They have both surprised me with a value and usefulness that far exceeds my expectations.

Hey Daylee. Ive seen that set at K-Mart. It was on clearance. ill have to go back and see if it still is.

When I buy a knife that costs in excess of $200.00 I expect it to be outstanding in execution and performance. What amazes me is when a $10.00 dollar knife is outstanding. The biggest surprise I have had of late is the quality of the knives from Rough Rider, for 10 bucks you get a lot of knife.

Spyderco endura 3 Stainless steel handle and all. The blade is made of aus-6,and whatever they did, they did it right.

There are still a lot of knife manufacturers I haven't heard from. They must only go to their own forums.Anybody like a Buck,Schrade,Camillus,CKRT,Ka-Bar,SOG. Go for it. I'll even got some Cold Steel. Whatever you have, if you like it,let us know.Forget the snobs.

Benchmade 750 Pinnacle--I fell in love with it the day I bought it and it's the folder that's clipped to my working pants every time.

Frost's Mora Clipper--I never expected a $12 knife to be even marginally tolerable, but the Frost's knives have the best price/performance ratio of any fixed blades I'm aware of. Unless you're chopping they should get the job done.

Benchmade Emerson 975SBT

My Leatherman original. Liked it so much I bought a dozen and gave them to friends who also loved them (even the ladies loved them). Later replaced with a Super Leatherman simply for the blade lock. If Leatherman is listening, bring back the original, but with the blade lock of the Super.
