@ SweptEdge-
Where do you reside with such laws?
As for your question, I have many of the same swiss army knives, namely the Soldier/SI model, classic, and the Tinker. Also, have duplicate Opinels though they are different sizes, and I have duplicate Buck 110's.
I guess it's the "wild west" where its your fault until you prove otherwise. Just kidding (kinda')
Here's a blade forum link to a New Mexico knife law discussion:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/178391-New-Mexico-Knife-Laws
Then the local law as it is written:
New Mexico - Criminal Offenses - 30-1-12. Definitions...
B. "deadly weapon" means any... weapon which is capable of
producing death or great bodily harm, including but not
restricted to any types of daggers, brass knuckles,
switchblade knives, bowie knives, poniards, butcher
knives, dirk knives and all such weapons with which
dangerous cuts can be given, or with which dangerous
thrusts can be inflicted, including swordcanes, and any
kind of sharp pointed canes...
- 30-7-2. Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon... consists of
carrying a concealed... deadly weapon anywhere, except in
the following cases [own residence or property; private
automobile or other means of conveyance; official]... a
petty misdemeanor.
- 30-7-8. Unlawful possession of switchblades.
Unlawful possession of switchblades consists of any person,
either manufacturing, causing to be manufactured, possessing,
displaying, offering, selling, lending, giving away or purchasing
any knife which has a blade which opens automatically by hand
pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle
of the knife, or any knife having a blade which opens or falls or is
ejected into position by the force of gravity or by any outward or
centrifugal thrust or movement.
Whoever commits unlawful possession of switchblades is guilty
of a petty misdemeanor.
New Mexico Case Law:
- "Jury to determine character of weapon..." (1973)
- "...a butterfly knife was a switchblade..." (1991)

Dudes, if you step out of line here in New Mexico you are automatically a criminal. What did I mean by step out of line? You don't go with the flow, infact a few years ago in a local town growing up.. there were jocks, stompers, thrashers, and nerds. I just happen to break the seal on all the groups, so I watch my back.
To pertain to this thread. I carry a "pocket knife," and I do it for practical purposes, In fact I would rather use a large rock or a branch to defend myself with.
I just don't like how a citizen (who can read the common law him/herself), and wonder if they have to kiss ass so their (a figurative of authority) not a criminal.
gross.
I agree with mots cops perspective, but I have met people here who have had a closed lock back fall out of the glove compartment, and they have received an assault charge, and go to jail.
If you were a cop and you had to feel up a few "skrot-bags" and their belongings only had less than $400.00, would you decide that a pocket knife was a "pokey-pointy"-"and all such weapons with which
dangerous cuts can be given, or with which dangerous
thrusts can be inflicted,": I'm sorry, but this place is soo corrupt.
If I have to tell someone that I am healthy so my fingernails grow fast, I'm not going to throw the toenail clippers at them (which are sharp and meant to cut humans with).
To adress legalees, the recent terms here given to judges are:
Aggravated, insane, off of medicine, crazy, street walker, loaded the shell in backwards, cult, homicidal, and now, Infidel.
My father is a police officer and we came down to the discussion of the oath you have to swear too (since I am Army), which when you sign up to the military, you sign to "defend against foreign
and DOMESTIC, and for the police their oath is a city or state brotherhood.
Yuk. Why do I have to feel compelled to tell the truth about this garbage (P.C. jargon, no, wait, its, its, propaganda with paraphernalia words.. no, noo ? ? :barf:
