What knives would you take?

Yes he is. Theft by the Tsa in checked bags is a serious issue. Nothing easier to pocket than a pocket knife. Happens all the time.

If you must limit it to 3 (there is no way my wife would let me limit any of her packing needs, thus she couldn't do the same thing) I would say take stuff that is easily replaced. I would take a bigger/ beefier folder, a lighter folder, and a medium size fixed blade. The horseman and 0561 seem redundant, I would take one of those for the big folder. There is no way I would trust a busse to the criminals in the tsa.

If it were my collection I would take my trusty 0560, a larger spyderco salt or Endura, and my Esee 6. Oh and a multitool.

Currently, I'd probably take my Blue G-10 Domino as my EDC, a Boker Nano Decade in case I want to carry something smaller, and my Skeletool CX so that I have a multitool. As much as I like to shuffle my EDC around when I'm not traveling, I wouldn't want to bring extras just for the sake of variety when I can do so much with just those three.

I'd take

1) My spyderco dragonfly 2: small, lightweight, unobtrusive and useful.

2) My Lon Humphrey Whitetail: same size as d-fly but a fixed blade, more robust.

3) Blind Horse Lumberjack AT as I'm confident that it can handle almost anything.

Strider SNG DGG, Benchmade 940, third would be a toss up between the Spyderco PM2 , Sage 2 or the Brous SSF

SAK and a dragonfly; unless it was an outdoor venture then I'd take a larger blade like my Camber. Probably my Juice Xe6 as well. The juice would replace the SAK if I was over the limit.

And make sure those blades are razor sharp, so if a particularly bold TSA employee feels like pocketing the blade alone... ;)

Just wondering, but do you get to limit her to just 3 pairs of shoes? :D

No offense, but if my woman tried to tell me how many knives I could carry, I'd be getting a new woman. No joke. :)

I dunno. If the wife feels the need to limit how many knives a guy packs to 3 on a trip to see the inlaws...she may not be controlling. She may be the voice of reason to a person she loves with a problem. ;)

I'd take your edc and if you plan on eating on the go maybe a clean knife for food prep. Pick whichever work best in those roles.

I personally wouldn't take any expensive blades with me. I have the tendency to lose stuff WITHOUT the help of any sticky fingered TSA agents. And there's always the chance you could lose your luggage. I feel like the best course of action would be to instead buy three new blades wherever your going. That's still limiting it to three, right?

A Spyderco Military at least :)

Further an Opinel INOX No.09 and a Cold Steel Rajah II.

The SAK and the Leatherman would count as multi-tools ;)

I like the way this guy thinks!!! Map out the closest "knife" store to the airport, (post a thread here and ask, I'm sure folks will steer you in the right direction), and buy 3 new Knives when you get there to mail home... I'm definitely putting this one in the back pocket for future use:

"But hunny, I heard all these horror stories about TSA agents, and I don't want to risk losing any of my good Knives, that would ruin my entire vacation... I didn't want to mail Knives to your parents house, they'd think I was a psychopath! And I'm DEFINITELY not going knife less this entire vacation!!! Just one quick stop before we head over there, I promise, the place is litterally right by the airport, nooveven 10 minutes, we'll grab something eat, look it's even along the way... I'll even get something nice for your dad..."

Pick up rental car, head over to store; be it an actual knife store or a cabela's/bass pro, whatever;

"you did say i could have 3 right?"

Winning!

How did I know that Cray would beat me to it?

Exactly what I was going to say. And honestly, I don't take ANY expensive knives when I fly. I have a Gerber large Paraframe that I've sharpened up to scary sharp that I pack in my checked bag. Never had it stolen.

Any traveling I do I always have Strider SMF, Winkler fixed blade, and a Multi-tool. Covers all of my needs.

I avoid flying at all costs due to the limitations on which of my own property I can carry with me, and the theft rampant with the checked luggage.
Not to mention disgusting airline food, cramped planes, screaming kids, "lost" baggage, layovers... the list goes on. I'd rather drive my own car and
bring all the toys that I deem necessary.

1. Spyderco Gayle Bradley Air CPM-M4 model 2.5".

2. Kershaw Leek Composite D2 Blade 3".

3. Kizer 4401X blue CPM-S35VN, titanium 3.5".

All an engineer's dream!

Out of my knives. To take 3 on a trip. I like to cover a few bases. Everyday knife, larger working knife, smaller classy knife. If I am flying with a chacked bag its mostly lower priced knives just incase of loss.

Driving
Umnumzaan
Benchmade 586 mini Barrage M390
Spyderco caly 3 cf zdp-189

Flying (checked bag)
Spyderco Dragonfly zdp-189
Kershaw Cryo
Victorinox Alox SAK

Bring a good fixed blade of around 4" to 4.5", a Spyderco Delica (or some other similar knife in size), and a SAK (Pioneer, Electrician, Recruit, Tinker, etc.). You will be ready for whatever may come.

If you got 2 suitcases you need at least 2 knives in each, just in case one piece of luggage gets "temporarily" lost.
Her is my shot:

Large Sebenza
Swiss Spirit

Small Sebenza
Endura.

red mag

PS: I can do without the Swiss Spirit. ;)

I too have to travel and the wife is going to limit me also. I will be driving to California. I will leave my sebenza at the house and carry a salt 1 as my main folder because we are suppose to go to te beach. I will carry a Vic recruit as my multi tool and have a buck fixed blade as a neck knife. I will also have a leatherman blast that stays in the car.
