What led you to Blade Forum

Was doing some general searching for knife info, opinions, knives for sale. Seems there is a bulletin board type forum on just about everything, so I googled knife forum and found BF. Spent some time lurking and realized there was a lot of very good information to be found here. Great site, I really need to upgrade membership to help support its continued success.

I was looking up some info on prospective Benchmade buys. That was sometime in the late 90's  ...

I've been here (part time, essentially) from the beginning. Before BF there was Knifeforums.com, and before that, there was Usenet's rec.knives.

I've always been a knife junky, so I guess that's it?

Think I was looking for information on an old Schrade I had gotten my hands on. Don't recall if I ever got any info, though. :)

Looking for a review a knife I wanted to buy, led me here. Eventually bought the knife, then traded away here on BF.

I bought a cheap crappy Chinese balisong.

I figured this would be a good place to find out where I could get another balisong that wouldn't fall apart in a month.

Although I had carried a pocketknife almost every day since age 12 and regarded it essential gear, I had little interest in knives as a subject. At 15 years into it, all I knew was Wenger (good), Victorinox (better), and why in the world would anyone want a single bladed knife when in the same package you could also have a can opener and a corkscrew  . One day, late 1990s, I became aware of the Leatherman tool. Curious, I did some internet research and came across this forum. One thing led to another, and I got engrossed in all kinds of knife lore; learned how blades are made, how to properly maintain them, also managed to accumulate a small collection. Almost everything I learned was from this site.

Actually, I dropped out for a few years, but then signed on again. Not sure why I did either.

Needed info on a Norlund hatchet I bought off EBAY
This place rekindled my love for knives (that, and lack of $ to buy GUNS)
I like all the historical info I get on knife companies

I was just getting into knives and i was googling the Kershaw line. I came upon the Kershaw Knives News thread about a year and a half ago. Started posting, figuring out the forum (new to the forum thing), and making some friends. Now a year and a half later, I am considerd a reg (scary i kno to those who know me), and have friends that i can actually talk to about my hobby without looking like a nut. Well, for the most part anyway :p

Oh and Esav, about the "10 years and still no clue whats going on" comment, i feel that after my ten years and your 20th, NEITHER of us will have figured it out :D :p.

I gave my EDC knife to a friend of mine and needed to replace it. I figured I'd get the same thing again, a CRKT M16... but just in case, I wanted to read a review. A couple weeks later I had a JYDII, and now I internet window-shop knives until I start making paychecks again.

I fell off a ladder and hit my head.....I saw a bright....soothing light and walked towards it. When I came out of the daze I was in....there was a laptop in front of me with bladeforums on the screen and my cursor on "New Posts"

Read a thread on another forum by a bunch of guys that had been banned by BF, so I had to come over and see what all the hubbub was about over here. . .

I used to browse the forums when still working regularly in my 'real job' but blade forums was not one of them. I didn't know about these forums then. I remember seeing some guys with 1500 posts on the ones I belonged to and thinking to myself, 'man, some people have too much time' Now I sit here with what, nearly 8k myself. :D

I was actually more into the LandCruisers and Pinzgauer forums back then and the old 50s and 60s Chevy trucks which I restored for fun. Back then I only belonged to one knife forum which was in fact knife forums and the only one I knew about but even then I used to browse and not post and I think I waited quite a while before I even registered as I recall. It was the only one I belonged to but I found BF through the KF and some members there that also were/are members here that became customers of mine in some cases. I regularly posted there, had a moderator position there at KF and still do and also shared a forum with my friend Dirk (Oupa) and some other like minded friends.

Little by little I started noticing that the lions share of the work I was interested in doing and getting asked to do, IE, more modern one hand opening and closing pocket clip equipped locking style folder work was all coming from one of two places. Blade forums or the Spyderco forum and not knife forums or the USN or anywhere else I frequented. In fact it seemed that even though I was in good standing per say on one forum, I never fit in there. On knife forums, the guys in my forum there didn't much care for Spydercos or Emersons and go more for slip joints and fixed blades which I did work on and for many years but I eventually burned out on those and found the newer models much more appealing both personally and for other reasons. I like modern style folders, I like screw construction, making pocket clips and I like and prefer locks most of the time although I do still buy and appreciate the nostalgia of a good slippie.

In short, most of the work I get comes from blade forums and most of the best friends I've met also and BFs ended up being where I fit best I think. I also like the way people can speak their mind and the moderators here try to allow a more impartial stance allowing a lot more to be shared than other forums will allow in discussions and so on before locking or banning a member. Not perfect I know, but its the best of all the forums I've ever belonged to by far and that alone was quite appealing.

Now I hardly visit the other forums, resigned my membership on one and was banned from one other for stating a fact but making the mistake of doing so to the administrator who later apologized and invited me back. I never went back. Fortunately I haven't really missed the other forums although I do still visit some and help out on knifeforums but not as often as I once did. My own forum here gives me all I need to fill my bench with work.
