What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Stuck at home with the virus and pulled out a box which hadn't been open for some time. I have always loved real Hen & Roosters and here are a selection from when Mr. AG Russell owned the factory. Although I am sure there are others out there, the boxed set of 5 us the only one I have come across. They are definately on the tiny side of things at 2.5". 3.5 KaBar for comparison.20220428_132221.jpg20220428_130911_HDR.jpg

It's interesting to see scratting appearing in modern times!!

The three on the left are from the 1800s; the large one on the right appeared in a 1911 catalog - the latest example I've seen until GEC did the ancients for me, in 2016!! Below.Ancient 4.jpgAncient 12.jpg

These Case barlows needed some air as well. The one arm is a 1970 (maybe 71, dots are small🤓) and the spear main is a USA era example. Both never used but the one arm suffered a bit of poor storage over its 50+ years. I must also lodge a complaint that the sawcut marks on the spear point are not noticeable,it is like smooth bone. When will Case of the late 60s get it right? I do make myself laugh. Gorgeous bone on both.

I don't recall ever seeing a set like that. Very nice. H&R put out some nice knives. What's the cover of the box look like?

Edit: Almost forgot. Get well soon 😷
At least you're at home and not in the hospital 🏥
