What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Sawcut bone Russell Green River Works. Son in law gifted this to me a few years ago.
That iteration of later Russells is especially well made and beautiful.

From AAPK - "The original Battle Axe Cutlery Co knives (1877 - 1937) were made for (or by) A. R. Justice, a Philadelphia Hardware wholesaler.
The newer Battle Axe Brand knives (1975 - 1990) were designed and imported by J.W. Hickey of Winston-Salem NC, Tommy Shouse of Winston-Salem, & George Smith of Hardin Wholesale who later became a partner in Blue Grass Cutlery. They are thought to have been made by the Frederich Olbertz factory in Solingen."

The "ONLY" Battle Axe barlow I've seen from the original company is owned by Augie Augie and is pictured in the "Old Knives" thread - post #23,246. It's a two-blade barlow with an "axe" stamped into the bolster.

This is one of the later barlows with the Battle Axe Brand stamp. Very well made and only 3 inches in length closed.55A0E72B-06C5-4F98-8C46-AB7D98851092_1_201_a.jpeg4139AB63-D127-4CB4-A09D-361FD8669CCE_1_201_a.jpeg5A8F59AE-3392-4316-98AB-2E55EC40D0FB_1_201_a.jpegD3B22213-421F-4374-BD53-171432177A9B_1_201_a.jpeg

Great Battle-Axes, old and new, John and Dwight!! I've only CF'd and CE'd one of those, and foolishly passed on it!!😢

Fantastic bone covers on your Battle Axe, bolster and blade combo is appealing as well.

Thank you Jack. Actually both blade tangs are stamped. They just didn’t show in the photo.
Thanks for the info Dwight, and sorry for the slow reply. You have built up an outstanding Barlow collection 'on the side' my friend! :D ;)
