What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Does a 1956 to 1988 Imperial (shell construction) Barlow qualify for "a 'good' traditional Barlow"?

I know the 1095 blades are "as good" as the more spendy Imperial-Schrade family of brands Barlows with pinned (or Swendin key) constructon of the same period.

Tang Stamp so I's notaccused of fibbing about its origions and/or age. 😁👍

If this don't meet the "good" qualifcation, let me know and I'll delete this post. 👍
To me that is a fine example to share here.👌

I can't speak for everyone, but I think it's good springs and blade make it a good knife. Their 1095 can take a verrrry sharp edge. Plus if you get the hankering, you can rescale them.

The blade etch on the Ablett's is quite light, Patina renders it invisible. wicked fine steel and takes a razor edge, too good not to use. Not had the chance castrate anything with it yet! :)

I wish I had of got one of his knives while he was alive. My dad has the same as you, beautiful knife for what it is as you say aesthetically pleasing and holds a razor edge.

Nye on impossible to find now.

At an auction last month two went for 500.

I paid about 20-25 quid,
walk and talk is the best I have seen from the sheffield makers, admittedly I have not a great many to use in comparison, he gets the spring flush with out trying I think.
