What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

All I can do is echo what others have said.
Charlie- you have helped bring back some great patterns.

Sarah,Barry- thank you also with your participation with these knives- how neat to have some involvement, I can only imagine how Charlie must feel.

I got some special help on the Speys from a couple of members here. The Rooster Etch was essentially designed by a fellow dealer here, and lots of help with grammar, punctuation, and general common sense, along with design approval, came from another esteemed contributor!

Many thanks, Barry and Sarah!!

Aw, thanks.

But as you know, I mostly just said "Yay" a lot (with an occasional "Meh" that was thankfully overridden), and left your exclamation marks alone-- that's how we know it's you! :D

I knew Barry was good at namin' stuff ("Soup Bone," anyone?), but had no idea he had such a keen eye for detail and the artistic ability to bring his concepts to life, seemingly overnight (cough).

Thanks so much for this picture, Barry!

I was, and am, honored to be in such good company, and marvel once at again at all the myriad of choices involved in creating each of these knives, and the guts and instincts of those who make the final decisions that lead to such a cohesive whole.

I feel pretty special with Charlie letting me get involved and it was a pleasure working with Sarah as well. Thanks again Charlie!

They look great. Well done Charlie, Sarah and Barry, you all did a splendid job by the looks of it.
Just a thought... I love the rooster etch. I think it would look superb without the script, heavily etched into the bolster instead of the TC.

;)

Good seeing you around again Amos. Stick around a bit, it's not enough just seeing you at the other place.

Yeah, I keep hanging out there and for nearly a year now I haven't even had a 1911. I still have several mags, a little ammo, holsters and such as I will get one again. I do however still have a handful or two of traditional pattern knives.

Bad part about being over here is it's easier to give into temptation seeing all these knives and "most" of them not costing what a gun costs. It makes it easier to spend money I don't really have to spend on them. I can feel the hands shaking already.

There's the brown!

Isn't it cool how that full spey blade disappears into the handle?!

Thanks, but please don't anyone give me more credit than is due-- my part really was about as much as one jelly bean in a jar of thousands. I'd like to think I was good for morale, heh, but that was about it! :D

I sure do, too. I want to keep at least one of mine, but foresee both knives being users. Clear fingernail polish, maybe? Probably not. :(

Your bolster idea is intriguing, but I'd imagine that such tooling is a prohibitive aspect of overall cost, and as-is the TC works for all the Tidioute barlows, past, present and future.

Y'all made some great knives for sure! Gotta pick one up soon before they're all gone for good.

I can't believe (unless I missed it) that someone hasn't done a pic of one of these barlows with a plug of:

I'm pretty sure more than one barlow in the past has been used to cut a plug. ;)

No longer PC,but I've known a few saintly mothers that used plugs and other tobacco. The one was gardening at age 92 or 94,broke her wrist, recovered to return to her garden(rows of corn, beans, tomatoes, not just flowers....).She gave up on life, when another of her children died and would hardly eat or sustain herself ,or she might be spry today.

Yes Amos! My grandfather used his Barlow mainly cutting off a square of chew, every morning after breakfast. My grandmother used to get so mad at him, telling him that he was going to influence his grandsons about tobacco. She was right, anybody got any Copenhagan??:D

I have been waiting for that one Amos!!:p
I knew the name was close, but it is such a great one!
And Roosters taste better!!;)
