What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Good posts slipcraft! Had a few laughs too. I was in your shoes with my first TC, same one as yours. Couldn't bear to use it either. Then to my amazement the same knife came up on the exchange a week later at the moment I logged on, and it was a user. I now have two, best of both worlds. (They do 'dirty up' nicely.) I'll post some pics.

Thanks for giving me hope that my affliction could end some day. Although, what you just described is akin to being struck by lightning twice... I'm generally not that lucky, but I'll try to remain optimistic.

Looking forward to seeing your posts!

Oh yes I know how that feels like, I tend to collect what I can- when the TC's first came out I tried to collect every one, but that soon became quite hard to do- Obtainable wise as well as financially.
I try my hardest to get one of every release though.
I have a few of these that are users - having another that is Safe Queened- so as you say the best of both worlds.

I had two that when I traveled they went with me- but I lost one- it was a first PPP release single Bladed Ebony Spearpoint Barlow - Gutted to this day! Paul Hilborn came in and sent me a brand new first release Ebony twin bladed barlow- amazing- THEN!!...He came across the single bladed version- Ebony- first release- and sent me that:eek::eek:
So I sent him back his double bladed one he gifted me- as he loved his double bladed versions then- by then it was used by me so became a user for him- which is kinda cool, I will never forget that act of kindness from Paul.

We have so many stories to tell about our TC's, One day I was working working with my Boss installing a machine- my Boss used to use knives on farms etc- but didnt hold the passion to edc one...anyway there were some wire ties holding a part of this machine together that we were unpacking and installing, he asked to borrow my Knife to cut these ( this was my TC Clip Point )... ching, ching ching he pressed the blade against them and cut them- I wasnt watching...
He handed the knife back and there were 3 small nicks out the blade!!!
I can tell you that moment that not many employees spoke to their Boss in that manner and held their jobs after lol - we are close - but man did he hear about it...that was my horrible lesson not to lend your good Knives to anyone.
Now my Clip point is called Flat Belly as I had to take the chips out which resulted in Blade loss.
Flat Belly is coming over to the Rendezvous with me, is also quite famous as Stan Shaw in England was photographed holding that Knife too!

Great story!!! Traumatic, but great!

I recently learned a similar lesson that involved a Northfield 83 Tascosa and my wife. I wouldn't characterize myself as a smart guy, but smart enough in that moment to remain silent, walk away quietly, and weep in solitude. Today, I always keep an Opinel #4 in my shirt pocket in case my wife needs a cutting tool. Valuable life lessons.

Sounds like the Healthy Hilborn Hilton!!
Maybe we'll stop in as we cross the continent!!
Ha ha!!:D

There is a diet plan for knife collectors. It's the one where you spend all your money buying every knife you see so that you can't buy as much food.
I like it!!
Hon, we are going on a diet!! That'll work!!

Not!!

Haha funny Stuff- Paul that sounds awesome- tell Nanc she is naughty!
Ok I had better get cracking and get some final things done!

A Barlow with character, Neal! Great!
I have seen a number of those with a somewhat squared off end. Am I seeing that right?
Interesting Barlow!

I was cringing Duncan as I read this, thinking/hoping I'd misread, that it was plastic zip ties holding wires together! One time you might have wished for one of those super steels.:p

My TC Barlow Clip Point with a slip that I just finished. The slip references some design elements from the TC, which I won't list, but I tried my best to do incorporate them in subtle ways. Custom burnished to simulate the look of a leather that's seen good use.

Still experimenting with strap/clip options to use with the D-rings for carry. My wife saw it and suggested that one of the D-rings can be used to hang a decorative Hello Kitty charm. We haven't spoken since.
