What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

A little pitting on the bolster of this old Landers, Frary & Clark makes it look kinda like an LF&"6" but it's legit.

Thank you Duncan, good to see you posting, hope you had a good trip back buddy.

Wanted to get this mint Kutmaster New Holland Barlow that Duncan generously gifted me at the Rendezvous in this thread where it belongs. What puts this one over the top is its original packaging, given as a gift to farmers stopping in their New Holland dealer.
So all of you that have New Hollands this is how it was packaged, dates from early 60's. The copper Walking Liberty is a great gift from Ron.

The knife, the card and coin, and especially the history. That is truly neat and thanks for posting it

Thanks for posting that pair, John!
Nice ones Jeff and tiger.
I just got back from the Rendezvous trek, but have to pick up my knives from the US post office, before I can scan and post them.
I suspect we will see some BF Barlows here soon, and then some SFO TCs!!
Can't wait!!!

Heres another lettered bolster, put these in the Gardner thread but they belong in the Barlow thread also. An unfinished Gardner and a finished one thanks to Charlie. Tang stamped Gardner 1876, they were only in business for about 10 years.
Thanks again Charlie!

Thanks for posting those "(G)"s, John!
Almost like before and after pics of a lifetime!!:)

Thank you Charlie, can't tell you how much I appreciate that finished one.
Well, it's been around the block, but it's amazing how that bone has mellowed!
I wonder if anyone has compared the different performance of bone from different places in the contributing animals??
Is the hip bone better than the thigh bone?
"Oh hear the word of the Lord!!"
:)

Reaching back into the past, I thought I'd brew a little eye candy here, and ask a question!
Here is my collection of Ancient Barlows. If you have one with the soupbone handles, can you please send me a pic, or better yet, post it here?
Much obliged!!

I'm going to take it upon myself to over analyze your post, Charlie. I'm looking forward to the upcoming run of Soup Bone handled knives you just confirmed above!

Always love seeing those Ancient Barlows, something rather magnetic about them and I'm not talking about the steel. :D
