What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Taking photos of this ancient barlow is so different from a new-looking knife - no need to worry about fingerprint marks or getting scratches on the bolsters!

I got my 2018 Ancient yesterday. I think Charlie's desire that these be carried will be fulfilled! I cannot see putting this one on a shelf! :) I put it next to my Blood Red TC from 2014 for comparison. One question, what does "CAR" stand for?

Music To My Ears!! And, thanks for the pictures - To My Eyes!!:)

i love the first ancients (dont have) & was lucky to sneak in a reserve for one of the new ones sight unseen. when I saw the production pics on the gec site, i thought, um, those are kinda ugly. so, had planned to turn mine over to someone who really wanted but couldn't get one. mine finally came and, um, the action w&t is so nice, I'm pretty sure it's a keeper! I use all my knives.

Man those ancients look great! so do the other ancients being shown too!

I am not too sure if I have posted this here before- but this Barlow is simply Stunning.

A Gift from Mr. Paul Hilborn, this amazing Stag Handled Barlow is beautiful!
Paul thank you for this Barlow - its just gorgeous!
Love the Stamped Bolsters, LOVE that Stag! usually I would prefer Stag not to be shielded - but the Ka-Bar Dog shield this time is a bonus!
I laughed to myself when I was opening and closing this Knife- I heard myself giving out a low grumble of satisfaction without even realising it lol- the Walk and Talk is superb!

Left my Blade Forums TC on my work bench yesterday so had to throw one of my carry standbys in the pocket today, realized how much I like carrying this old knife.

I really like mine too, hasn’t left my hand or pocket since I got it, just my initial take was that they were , maybe homely is a better word, but love it & glad to have it.

you know Duncan, that barlow would be great as a single blade! ;):D

No longer a skeptic, these are an instant classic. Blade profile is slightly different than a spear, thin grind is nice, long swedge yummy. Congrats waynorth waynorth on another homerun.

Photo with my dad's pocket watch / switch key / railroad lantern. Dad was slightly superstitious, hence the four-leaf clover. He was always concerned a large truck would collide with the train ... guess it would be scary to see a gasoline or propane truck barreling down perpendicular to the train you are riding on and supposedly in charge of. He bought the watch used from a local jewelry store, made payments. Was a requirement of the conductor's job to have a certified accurate timepiece or he never could have afforded such a lavish item otherwise.

My great aunt Vera was famous for her homebrew muscadine wine in the Ozarks around Mena Arkansas. I was too young to ever get any when we visited, but the adults all partook.

For the record, I am not superstitious. Not one drop.

What is not to love about that one my friend . Nice Stag does tend to make a guy chuckle when he first sees it . They made a beautiful Stag Barlow and yours is one of them .

I love this whole thread, and all the people (and knives) that hang out here.
And I agree these latest Ancients are kinda homely! Makes them easy to love!!:)
Thanks Camillus Steve, Dean, Perry, Laurel, Augie, HST, Mrknife, Duncan, John, Redsparrow and Harry and everyone else for making this thread so great!!
The only thing I am missing is a taste of Muscadine wine!! I have read up on it, and know the Muscadine vines are at the root of a lot of the best wine production in America, but I have never had the pleasure!!
Maybe I'll find some in Pennsylvania in August!!
