Nope, but it sure seems pretty silly holding a conversation with a guy that's long gone.

Anyway welcome to the forums! Enjoy your time here and watch your wallet.
Roger that. Thanks, I just found this place. Looking forward to talking with you folks.

What's with all the negativity?

Tactical simply means if you have to kill someone, you need to do it fast without harming your tool or yourself; meaning your knife needs to be:

Thick blade, especially at tip
Penetration
Thumb stud or hole for fast one hand opening
Choil
Grippy
Pointy butt as impact tool
Sharp
Solid lock
Easy of dis-assembly

So what makes a sock tactical?

I didn't know they made tactical socks!

And don't forget the tactical bacon.

I'd say it's an aesthetic design philosophy, to be distinguished from something like a classic sodbuster or slipjoint or even Sebenza. I'll leave an example. Emerson knives...most of his knives are tactical. Even the knife he calls Gentleman Jim is tactical. On the other hand, a Benchmade Griptillian is far from something I'd call tactical.

Of course, if you ask me what I personally think a tactical knife is, I'll tell you it's whatever knife you have on your person when SHTF and you're backed up in a corner with nowhere else to run (hopefully second to your handgun).

I hope that was sarcasm.

Were I live in deepest darkest Appalachia we are at least 50 years behind in terminology,LOL...
Here knives come in "TWO" varietys
1: pocket knife
2: hunting knife
If it folds its a pocket knife, if it dont its a hunting knife..Its really that simple around here...No such lingo as "tactical", "assisted", "slip-joint", "fighter", etc..etc..I dont bother using any terms other than these two..No one, knows or cares about "tactical"......
The only thing they care about is how good they cut and how long they cut. Period ;)

Well yea, you got me there..Ill put it this way I know some of the terminology :D:D:D Ill be honest, before I joined this forum I didnt know what a "slip-joint" was :p Come to find out, Id been carrying one for almost 30 years :o

Yup, old thread. IMO, tactical means that it is HD enough to be used for things that ordinary knives should not be used for, such as prying cutting/piercing steel/aluminum. It should also be able to be penetrated into almost any surface & be used as a step, with a combat load + the persons weight. Also be able to repeatedly take abuse & still be easy to get the edge back up to snuff. That is all use IMO for a tactical knife, not abuse. I would NOT want to trust my life under the above circumstances to a rat-tail tang Marine combat knife or the US Army's issue bayonet. 1/4" thick, full width, full tang, good steel, good heat treat are the foundation of a good tactical knife.
