What movies do you consider worth owning?

The recent thread about Apocolypse Now brought to mind that I bought the Redux version because I figured it to be somewhat of a classic of its time. Meaning that I would watch it more than once or twice, therefore making having the movie reasonably worth it. There are others that I bought, knowing that had I not gotten them, I'd probably watch them anyway if they came on TV. Other reasons I bought some are that I like to see movies with all the stuff that cable or networks remove in order to save time for commercials or to make it more family friendly. Still another reason is that, with the advent of DVD, I can zip to parts of the flik that I like while ignoring scenes I don't like.

Are there any movies you might figure is worth owning, ones you would watch more than once or maybe take out and watch when people come over the house?

The crouching tiger one.

Toystory ;)

Aladin! I watched that last year, in social stuides. Damn, it had some crip ass songs. :D

"The Lord of the Rings" trilogy - but get the Special Extended versions. They're far superior to the theatrical release versions.

There are some movies worth owning IMO. I own and watch 'Ben Hur' over and over again. Love that chariot race, but the whole movie is great. Also, like 'Godzilla 1998.' That movie is absolutely hilarious most of the time and the monster is pretty good FX. Looks big and very bad. A couple of Gene Kelley movies, 'American in Paris' and 'Singin' in the Rain' just to see Kelley do his stuff. He's impeccable. Dirty Harry (Looks like you're sh** outta luck) in the 'Dead Pool.' These several just off the top of my head.

With so many new films, and old ones I've never seen, it's hard to justify watching any particular movie over-and-over again. And with rental prices at $1.00 - $1.50, you'd have to watch a movie five to fifteen times to come out even.

There are almost no hollywood-crap movies I'd watch ten times, or even twice.

That being said, I own a few Godzilla movies (they were cheap), the trio of Clint Eastwood speghetti westerns, Once Upon A Time In The West, and some bargain-bin collections (ten mysteries for ten dollars, that sort of thing).

Wild Bunch
