I will admit, I have liked some chick flicks. Debbie Does Dallas, Where the Boys Aren't. :D

Seriously, some made me chuckle. I'll make a list when I can remember them.

When I saw Debbie Does Dallas, I laughed, I cried, I reflected.

Two thumbs waaay up.

You cant forget one of the greatest movies of all times.

"The Big Lebowski"

actually all of the Cohen brothers movies are good choices. I just watched their first movie "Blood Simple" again yesterday. Great story, lots of plot twists and suprises and with great attention to detail.

RickR here!

I just have to jump in. Not many are worth owning IMHO. BUT....
a couple are. Back to The Future Trilogy, Die Hard and Dirty Harry.

I'm going to print this thread out. There are so many great movies it reminds me to watch.

I don't think anyone has mentioned The Patriot (the Mel one) And Leon the
extended version of the Professional. And Day of the Jackal the original was
a good film and a Great book.

As far as a horror film, I always liked Pumpkinhead.

I own a number of movies, but these are some that get watched at least once a year. In no particular order the repeaters are:

Pulp Fiction
Citizen Kane
Arsenic & Old Lace
the Good, the Bad, the Ugly
Fight Club
Papillion
Hannibal
Saw (relatively new, but watched it a few times)
the Last Emperor
Psycho (original)
Rear Window (original)
Red Dragon

And as far as gangster films go Goodfellas was decent and the Godfather
series was great but my top pick is Millers Crossing with Gabriel Byrne
great movie!! If you want to see a weird gangster flick the English film
the Crays was really viscious and had some knife stuff in it also.

Rear Window

Good flick! Jimmy Stewart is also in Hitchcock's "Veritigo", and probably others. I watched them both for a media literacy class. I wonder how they ever succeeded without gratuitous violence, sex, and animations? ;)

Off the top of my head:

Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogies
Shrek 2
Back to the Future Trilogy
New York City - the PBS history of (one reason I am AGAINST cutting PBS funding)
The Incredibles
Finding Nemo
The Beatles Anthology
Led Zeppelin - 2003
The Sopranos
Pulp Fiction
The Kill Bills
Resevoir Dogs

Thread was "Favorite Movies",I think, anywho, can't find it anymore.I know there is a way to,I just haven't figured it out yet.I posted my top 5 as most or a lot of the other forumites were doing.Dumbfounded,I realized I had neglected to post my actual favorite,SoaW.The Thanksgiving dinner at Slade/DeNiro's brother's was priceless. And the Disciplinary Committee Hearing at the end of the movie had me so engrossed I didn't realize tears were streaming down my face.Perhaps that's why I didn't post it among faves.Any help would be appreciated.Sincerely,CryBaby/Leatherbird.

Robert DeNiro was in "Scent of a Woman?"

Now, Al Pacino...he was damn good in "Scent of a Woman." :D

Merged this into the thread you were looking for.

WOW,yeah,I don't know how I replaced Pacino with DeNiro, just a a stupid mistake!Sorry.Post still stands though.Just replace DeNiro for Pacino.

Movies worth owning are the ones with memorable lines that have entered our American lexicography and can be used in a variety of situations:

Apocalypse Now: "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."
Citizen Kane: "Rosebud"
Terminator: "Ahll be bahk"
Predator: "If it bleeds, ve can kill it"
Goodfellas: "F@@K you! pay me!
Dr. Strangelove: "A fella could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff!"
Animal House: "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son"
Dirty Harry "Do you feel lucky?"
Unforgiven: "Hell of thing killing a man, taking away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have"
Stalag 17: "At Ease!"
The Day the Earth stood still: "Klaatu barada nickto"
Patton: "When you stick your hand in a mess of goo, that a moment before was your best friends face, you'll know what to do"
The Wild Bunch: "Let's go...Why not!"
Arsenic and Old Lace: "Even the cat's in on it!"
The Manchurian Candidate: "Why don't you pass the time by playing a little solitare"
Jaws: "We're going to need a bigger boat"

And so many more

When Batman Begins comes out on DVD I'll definitely buy it.
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Star Wars III-VI (screw I and II; except for Natalie Portman and Yoda's lightsaber battle)
Leon the Professional
Boondock Saints
LOTR Extended Editions
Blues Brothers
lots and lots of others and....

Team America World Police!!! :D

I don't own very many movies. I prefer to rent them and send them back so they aren't around collecting dust. I don't trust the longevity of the media any more either as I had a bunch of VHS movies that I finally gave to the library because I never watched them due to the lousy quality of VHS. I guess I should consider myself lucky I didn't have Beta or the disks :)

I still usually pick the movies out at the video store but more and more I just buy it off the digital cable Video On Demand so it automatically expires and I don't have to return anything. I think the Netflix type rentals are good too - you can keep three disks as long as you want and you return them by prepaid mail when you want different disks.

Oh - I guess the topic was about the movies I DO have - that would be a bunch of Sherlock Holmes flicks, with a variety of actors playing Holmes, Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Brett, etc....
