What multi tool, You using today?

PowerPint removed/replaced screws so I could clean my chimney. Should cool down a bit next week and I'll split the rest of my wood for this upcoming winter 🥰

Did you take the serrations off?
Or just an illusion?
No, it is the diamond and cross cut file I swapped in from the Arc in place of the serrated blade. I guess it looks kind of weird against the concrete floor. I prefer it to the original P4 file.

Today I was able to tackle a tool maintenance project on my polished stainless paratool. I have had this one for a couple of years now and keep meaning to do a takedown and deep cleaning of the individual implements. Once I had the tool apart, I cleaned all the tools with isopropyl alcohol. I wire brushed the file and the pivots. I had some pitting on the can opener and large flat driver. The tip of the awl was broken as well. I replaced those with some better condition pieces from my spare parts and reassembled the tool. I think it is now ready to be put back in the rotation.

I am really liking this Wave Alpha, and don't have an issue with what I paid for it. I will say that if the Arc hadn't come along first, I think a lot more folks would really like this Wave Alpha. I am glad to have it, and another multitool in the arsenal never hurts!

It does look pretty cool, although I always like the serrated blade but it's great they are trying different ideas.

I don't disagree at all. Like, I get the logic they had, that MagnaCut means greater edge retention, so the serrated blade isn't "needed", but the fact is, if you cut a lot of rope or other fibrous materials as a use case, then a plain edge knife isn't going to be as good for the job as a serrated blade.

Bravo. The old original SOG American made Paratool.

I have one too, used it yesterday with my Arc for a two handed spring bending project.

Its great to see one put to use. They certainly are a quirky tool for sure. They sure put a lot more metal in the older ones.

My Dad was a small gun dealer in the early 90’s. Around 1993 he bought a Leatherman, an SOG and a Gerber. He had 3 sons and I was the oldest and got first pick. I had zero knowledge of any of them, had never seen a multi-tool before, and picked the SOG.

I was a lumber jack at the time, cutting trees and hauling wood, keeping old equipment running and such and it was worked very hard for several years. After retiring to indoor work I continued to wear it daily. He was with me one day and asked to see it and was appalled by its condition and sent it back to SOG for warranty replacement. It was NOT defective.

It had been ABUSED.

When they sent him a new one and he gave it to me (the one in the picture) I wore it for quite a while, then I started to notice the new SOG’s were different.

Then he died.

I bought a Power lock and put the Paratool in a safe place to remember him with. I would have never returned it because it was so abused, but he was crazy like that.

I only replaced the Power Lock with a Leatherman Arc in the last few years. All the new SOG stuff is made in China.

SOG to the rescue! I was deer hunting out of a tower stand this past Thursday morning with a Ruger 308 WIN bolt gun. At lunch time I came out of the woods and decided I needed to finalize the zero on my 44 MAG Levergun that I use in the swamps and thicker woods. I had everything set up when I realized the Williams sight has two tiny lock screws that keep the adjustment screws from turning; I though oh hell, I’ve got no eyeglasses size screwdrivers in the toolbox, then remembered my SOG tool. It had a tiny screwdriver blade on the end of the can opener blade. Just what I needed. This tool was a gift from some of my fellow Guardsmen when I retired 20 years ago, I keep it in the glovebox of the pickup. OH

I was going to post my SAK but I looked around and no one else posted one. Just Other multitools. I don't have a multitool if you don't count SAK's as one. I do. They have multiple tools. I love my SAK's and have not needed to try a "multitool". I have had thoughts of it.; But being a limited income I see the prices and I am not going to buy one to try at those prices. Now if one would end up in my possession, I would give it a honest go. But for now. I look at the SAK's and look at the multitools, and I just prefer the compact size and weight of the SAK's. Now if I had a job were I really had a use for them, I would get one. But being disabled. I do projects but I don't need a multitool. I use either my SAK or I go get the proper tool.
