What non knife people think of our hobby

What non-knife people think of my knives:

Can't see where I need so many.
Can't see why I'd pay so much.
Can't see why I'd not just have one , or two cheaper ones.
Won't hardly look at any of them , if I attempt to show them.
So, I mostly keep them to myself, when dealing with non-knife people.
Pretty much same with me. They're fine with a SAK or if we're outdoors having a knife - but don't see the need for having more than one. I don't discuss or show them my knives. That is what this place is for :P

Knives are like guns. They all look the same to most women. Keep them hidden and they’ll never know how many you own.

I'd love to get my wife to do this, it would be funny.. But then she would know how many knives I have.

That's what I find. If i try to show someone they barely feign interest. But try to understand. If someone was talking to you about the various Air Jordan shoes you might not be able to feign interest for long.

I never knew you were the knife reviewer. Good idea for the post and very nice body of review work with the blades. Keep it up.:thumbsup:
Sorry it's not me. That's Peter from Cedric Ada Gear and outdoors. I'll specify that now in the op.

I thought it was a really funny and entertaining video. Very friendly folks with a good perspective

The best thing that's happened is rerouting to UPS stores and Amazon dropbox shipping. Man, nothing comes to my front door any longer. Wife knows nothing, or I know nothing about what she knows. Hmmm...

It's like any other hobby, whether collecting knives, seashells, guns, hot wheels and matchbox cars, people often don't understand. About the only thing I see people relating to is if you collect jewelry, those who don't understand assume it's an investment but probably don't understand what to look for.
I don't collect anything myself yet managed to accualate about 10 knives. The only one I have that comes close to a 'collectable' is an S35 Buck Spitfire. Still, I do like this as when I do decide I want a different knife, I know what to look for.

Non knife people can’t sharpen their knives, so they ask me to do it for them. They are amazed at all the intricacies of putting a good edge on a knife. My friends see it as a hobby like theirs; most of us have our “thing”-card collecting, playing guitar, fishing.....

I still like what that one dude said, some guy is going to make out like a bandit when he buys my knives and guns off my wife for what I told her I paid for them.

Billy badass over here. The OP was just trying to share a bit of banter and fun in the general chat forum, get over yourself.

As was I. I enjoy my knives enough to not worry about what others think about them.

And I did that without insulting other members, which I believe is not allowed in GKD.

Non-knife people generally don't notice a lot of things that we do, but also see through a lot of things that people caught up in brand/model hype won't. Because all they know is whether they think a given knife looks cool or feels good, they can be very useful for bouncing ideas off of to make sure you're not getting sucked into industry spin. At the same time, that casual disregard for aspects that matter a lot more in the community is something that needs consideration as well. Just because a non-knife person thinks (or doesn't think) a certain thing about a given knife doesn't mean that knife folks are necessarily misguided. But getting a fresh non-expert opinion from a layperson can sometimes be useful for various reasons.
