What ONE knife do you use to keep the boogyman away?

OK, this is going to be embarrassing, as I have been forced to take stock of how many knives I sleep an arm's length away from...

On me: small sebenza clipped to nightshirt

In the bed: Busse SH-E and Badger Attack, CRK Project I, 20" HI Sirupati, 12" HI Sirupati

Under the bed: 30" HI Kobra and a shovel

If I had to pick a knife, I suppose I'd carry down the 20" Sirupati, it's long, light, sharp, and quick.

(I'm not that paranoid, really, I just haven't cleaned my room in a while.)

Probably it would be the big forged 1084 bowie by John Fitch sitting by my bed. Blade is 11" long with good point and actually has a sharpened back edge. Nickel silver double guard and black micarta handle.

Call me a traditionalist, but my “security blanket” is the old 8” Randall Model 1 that hangs on my nightstand. Probably not the most practical or effective defense system, but I’m comfortable with it…

Novadak,

A shovel? It sounds like the BG that breaks into your place is going to get everything he/she deserves.

For me its a 357. Its less conspicous (especially in a dark room) and the first time the BG will know about it is when he sees the muzzle flash. Anyone who breaks into your place while you are there should be considered extremely dangerous. I wouldn't fool around with this kind of BG.

LOL! I hadn't thought of it that way (truth be told I have no idea how I ended up with a shovel under my bed), but I suppose it would be handy, no?

And yes, whichever knife was chosen, it would be serving as backup for Things That Go Bang...

Trusty Kabar. Not the best knife I own, but it's been on the nightstand for years so I leave it there.

Well that would have to be my Polkowski CQ. It's been my primary carry blade for quite a while now. I would rather carry my Polkowski 8 Ball but until I get a -few- more I wouldn't dare mess with my pride and joy! *sigh*

Mineral Mountain Persian Skinner in leather sheath (nice & quite!). I keep it on my nightstand within easy reach. 'Course my ParaOrdnance .45 is inside the drawer just in case too!

I am in housing on my college campus, and we are not allowed to have any weapons(The RA comes in and searches are rooms every once in a while)so my whole collection is with my parents in Tampa, My parents just got my MT UDT in the mail and I will not get to see it until summer!

machete always under the bed. My new AFCK is under the pillow. The SAK Trailmaster rests on the nightstand.</font>

Heh... you should keep it clipped to the top of the sheets - or better yet, clipped to the wastband of your drawers
wink.gif
If it's loose under the pillow, it'll prolly end up on the floor. (do you REALLY sleep with a knife under your pillow???

)

If I had to use a knife and nothing else, I'd grab the biggest damned thing I could find...If I had a machete I'd use that.. but as it turns out, I'll have to settle for my RTAK - which shouldn't have a problem lopping off parts of an intruder if necessary.

True - about the best thing you can have is a monster stun gun and some pepper spray. I'd prolly opt for a nice aluminum baseball bat a'la Primus....

Zerozappa, It hasn't fallen off yet. It also replaced the cheap gerber ez-out and before that a ka-bar "little finn" (small thin fixed blade utility; i think model 1226) without any problems. Btw that little finn but i wished it wasn't stainless steel.

I have a hand-held torch with a 14" flame in one hand, a Colt Mustang IIP plus with splatter ammo in other hand, Greco serving steel in rear pocket.

Heh - sharpen the sucker, and you'd be pretty darned safe unless the guy has a gun...

Yup, NJ is a scary place. Just means one thing. Either be very careful cleaning up and hiding the body or take it piece by piece down to the big cat house at the Bronx zoo and give the lions a little snack.

No, not that kind of cathouse, geesh.
