What other choppers do Beckerheads carry?

I didn't know to post this off - topic or recommendation because I am thinking about axes / hawks. I have handled a few of the CS hawks and they felt nice in the hand and they were fun to play with. I can't say that I have ever handled a real wood chopping axe before (something outside of what you can buy at a hardware store). I am just wondering for a recommendation what would or do you pair with your BK's as far as axes or hawks ?

Recommendations are open to all interpretations and pairings. Everything from a hawk and a 9 to a battle axe and an 11....

Typically i use a fiskars axe, either the BK 9 or 4 and a BK 16. I do change it up a bit depending. I use the bk2 in the mix as well depending on the locations I go to.

Too many to list, but a good start would be; the M-18, ESEE Junglas, Council Hudson Bay axe HB Forge Hawks, these all pair nicely with a BK10 or BK16.

I have two Ontario 12 inch machetes that chop really well, but for an axe I have one that I really like.
It started off as this-

Its the Harbor Freight Hatchet, turned into this(on the right)-

I love this axe, its lightweight, only 19.5 inches long, chops and splits really well and will do fine work not too shabby.
Plus it only cost $15 after coupon. And it holds an edge REALLY well, which surprised me to no end!

Love my swamp rat hawk

Some other choppers

Thanks for the info guys! I definitely like the mod of the firemans axe!

Carry? Gotta go with my BK4 Machax. It's the lightest one and chops. My go-to woods knife.

I have a BK9 and a custom made axe I keep around the house for chores. If I need to I can take them with me.

If you're just branching out I'd say tramontina machetes and fiskars/gerber axes are good options. Condor makes some good axes too if you really want a more classic style. I have a couple of the CS hawks too but I like to think of them more as kits. Take it apart, ditch the set screw and properly fit the handle to the head. Even then I've sent back as many as I've kept because of defects I've found in the heads.

My general recommendation for a small axe is the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe if you can afford it. I don't view it as something you buy and just use it once every 5 years. I'd get something much less expensive for that.

I like the Eswing tomahawk if you like the pointy end.

I mostly use a number of Condor products for portable choppers including various machetes (Golok, Parang, and Puerto Rican), the Pack Golok and Village Parang. Depends on the chopping chore and if I have defined chopping plans and want something that can chop, I take either the Pack Golok or Village Parang.

Fiskars are okay hatchets if you want light duty stuff.

I've been looking at the Gransfors Bruks, but for the amount of use that I would give it I cant justify the price. Should I move up north one day into my dream cabin that will definitely be on the need list. Looks like I'm going to have to get a 9 then experiment with what works for me when the weather gets a little nicer.

I have the Les Stroud Bushaman axe, and I like it quite a bit. Also have the Kershaw Camp 10, the Cold Steel Jungle Machete, Condor Golok, and one of my favorites, the Cold Steel LTC Kukri

I love my BK9 but if I want something really ridiculous I bring out my Breedan Camp Cleaver. It's a BEAST!
Also, I just got a rehung Norlund Camp Axe. It has a 2.5# head and was rehung with a 28" handle. I haven't tried it yet but it looks promising.

I try to keep my Condor Golok and Village Parang in the mix as well as an old Legitimus machete for light weight chopping.

Wolf, what is that in the 2nd picture and how thick is it?

Nice collection bud!!

That is a Himalayan Imports "Farm Knife". The blade is 11" long, a hair over 2.5" wide, and about 5/16" thick. One HECK of a chopping and slicing beast.
