I have a Fiskars X7 hatchet. Cheap, and it works pretty well. I wouldn't feel too bad if anything happened to it since it's easily replaceable. The only thing wrong with it is that you can't stick a new handle in it if the handle broke. Unlikely but not impossible I don't think.

It's 1/4" thick and 2 1/4" wide at it's belly.
17 1/4" overall with an 11" blade tip to plunge line.
Differentially hardened with a beautiful hamon.
