I've thought about replacing the handle slabs with some micarta. The current handle slabs are wood which has shrunk a tiny bit and wiggle a little. It's still quite structurally sound but micarta would make it truly apocalypse-ready.

The blade is a serious chunk of differentially tempered 5160, hand forged with the forge scale left on. It looks rude & crude compared to one of our modern mass produced western knives, and I suppose it is, but it's very sharp, very rugged, and it does its job very well. It's like a weaponized meat cleaver.

Trade - I both love and hate you right now. That picture was so awesome that I need both a cigarette and a drink after looking at it (I neither smoke cigarettes or drink much). I also am now depressed that in order to accumulate a collection like that, its going to take me the next 20 or so years with the way "the warden" guards our funds.

Out of all the choppers on that log (excluding the bk9 because everybody needs one) which would you say is the best chopper?

1. The Tramontina machetes. I like the 14" (third one down).

2. Fiddleback Forge (fifth one down)

3. Condor bolo machete (fourth down)
 
Currently I'm carrying the Ontario Spax, and I'm surprised at how light it rides. It says it's 26 ounces, but I don't really feel it.
 
I've got another log full, just not a picture of them :D. If I'm going to the boondocks in summertime it's the fiddleback or a tram. It's an axe and a saw in the cold though.

I'll soon be carrying my Nomad Knife & Tool "Up North" chopper ;) . It's a 12" blade 1/4" thick piece of 5160. Pics soon!
