What Otter knive to choose

Yep, and is one heck of a great knife. So nice I bought it twice.
My copy of the three rivet looks nothing like that. The wood is mediocre quality and dry, there are rough edges everywhere, and some stuff isn't flush. To top it off, there were big dents in the handle like it had been hit by a hammer.

Did you get the one they sell in Germany with grenadil and brass or the one they produce for export with the oak and stainless? Mine are not the exports.

I got it at Amazon, so probably not the German one.
Oof. Yeah, probably not.

One of mine I ordered direct from Germany (took months to get here) and the other one I bought from a fellow forumite who had ordered his from there too. They are both very high quality and have none of the issues you mentioned.

Always wondered if the three rivet knives have actual riveted rivets or just glued?

They’re inlays, not actual rivets. They don’t go through the scale and liner. The anchor on the Ankermesser is pinned, but I have no idea how the rivets on the 3 rivet are attached. They’re only on the show side scale.

I read a comment on Amazon saying his example looked like a factory second. He suspected that was what they were selling. He suggested you order through the producers website. I read a very limited sample of comments.

I suppose them being pinned would be rather expensive to make.

The Dreinietenmesser is the same size and shape as the Beekeeper. The spring is strong, so I don't think the lack of a half stop would be a concern.

I have the carbon steel three rivets in smoked wood, it is a good solid life not hard to open, and keeps an edge. For and finish is good and I like the bolster that has a fuller or indented if that is what it’s called.

The Otter Klassik arrived quickly and I'm very taken with it. Sapele wood, a variant of Mahogany and nice grain on it. All steel and stainless blade, very good F&F tough opener and it arrived sharp, no gaps or blade play. Spear is long and slim which some might not like, but I do ;)

Very nice Will. All of the Otter; Otter-Messer, knives I have are as you described - tight, sharp, and ready to work.

Hope everything is secure where you're at.

Ugh, you guys have beautiful Otters! I want the anchor sheepsfoot so badly 😍 Or the brass Otter Mercator. Beautiful, beautiful knives.

Modoc ED Modoc ED Thanks Ed, they make an efficient and worthy knife, I think the quality has actually gone up over the past few years, nice change!

As for security, the way humans have 'organized' the world or globalised it if you will, means that nowhere is actually secure any more. But politicos everywhere want to pretend otherwise.

Let’s just say that I don’t own just traditional knives anymore.

I think that he meant moreso, you and yours, are you good? That's how I interpreted it. But maybe not, because then a reply goes:
Let’s just say that I don’t own just traditional knives anymore.
Since this was a reply to Will's globalization remark... I would assume this relates.
Is this a comment about "security" in today's world after Will Power?! 😂😂😂 About not carrying trads? Reminds me of a dude complaining in an Amazon review of a Higonokami that he couldn't hold it reverse ice-pick grip and "some people need a knife to be capable to defend"... against who, Ze Germans?

"Yeah... the world in flames... Lets just say I don't carry slipjoints anymore!"

do not take offense, guys. I just am having a laugh. I might even agree with you if I were allowed to expound. I am not for some modern stuff today either, but because you can/t specify, who knows? 😀

I was referring to the fact that I also live in the neighbouring country to Putler and there’s no traditional knives in my SHTF kit. I have traditionals for every day tasks though.

Oh, okay, that makes sense, it was just the order of phrasing gave me some giggles 😀 I get your decision, though. Fixed blade is heavy. Reliable. If the blade doesn't work you can always hit him with it.
