What Otter knive to choose

Very nice Will. All of the Otter; Otter-Messer, knives I have are as you described - tight, sharp, and ready to work.

Hope everything is secure where you're at.
I was hoping this was the case, because I have only a K55 Mercator (So funny that this was considered a "hood's knife"!) and it is flawless, there is not one aspect of that knife that I dislike... you can only make it better. So, I was going to buy the SS variant, the copper Otter variant, and then go branch out into the even more trad looking Otters (even though the K55 was designed 1869, cannot imagine the other patterns are older, if they are, that is amazing).

They make a Sodbuster?! Forget Case, forget Schrade!

Yep, and if you look around you can find one in grenadilla wood (African Blackwood). The action isn't quite as smooth as my Case sodbuster Jr, but just look at that wood!

I am entranced! This is the Sodbuster I will carry.
Do you know if they make these sort of production, like they do the K55 or the anchor knife?

It is a regular production knife. I see some vendors selling grenadill with light brown handles, and that is not grenadill. Look for someone selling them with very dark handles (I see it on the big river site, among others). Mine is the small. It was advertised as carbon steel, but the blade is definitely stainless. Search for small Otter Hippekniep grenadil, and look for black handles.

Otter stainless says rostfrei on the blade.

Mine doesn't say rostfrei, but it is definitely stainless. I even tried cold bluing on it, and it didn't make the slightest mark. The backsprings and liners are a different story.

I'll probably get an Otter-Messer carbon paring knife with beech handle, 3" sheepsfoot blade, 7 1/8" overall length next time I put together a knife order (maybe for Pi Day).

A lot of reviews I’ve seen on the 3 rivet say the bolsters are stainless but they’re definitely not.

I’m thinking it’s all carbon steel - beautiful patina everywhere. Those fluted bolsters look so good after they get a little grey and a few dings on em.

After my initial bad luck with the three rivet, I decided to give otter another try. I ordered the 161 Classic R MS in barrel oak. Beautiful knife. Absolutely perfect. Haven't had a chance to oil and wax it yet, but it already is gorgeous. Very happy with this one.

That's a very attractive knife, good big blade compared to the frame, nice wood and looks like a potential tough worker  Wonder if they offer them with stainless bolster too?

Thanks, Will
