WHAT PERCENTAGE OF YOUR KNIFE COLLECTION ARE SAFE QUEENS ?

Then there's a bunch of knives that don't see much, if any, use, but which I would not consider safe queens (yet...).
Sometimes: we call them, "Trade Bait"...

I was curious.....in the most basic sense.
Your reply........reads like a great defense......To a spouse complaining.......

I am very blessed! My wife never complains about my hobbies and is 100% supportive. My comment was the reality, the primary exception being that some of the knives I'm not using will be sold before too long - I haven't gotten around to that yet, either.

No safe queens here. Which is not to say that that will always be the case, but it would have to be something super special for me to purchase with the intention of not carrying it.

0%. Unless you count some swords that haven't been used, but are patiently awaiting the Zombie Apocalypse.

About 3% aren't for use. A couple commemorative knives I wanted in the collection, because the brand had meaning to me, and a couple whack-a-doodle knives that are cool and get me a high-five from my teenage self, but not at all useful for anything (I'm looking at you Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII). The rest are designed for use and get put in various rotations: yardening bushcraft, beyond yardening bushcraft, light EDC, heavy EDC, and gentlemen carries). Some are only put in the rotation on rare occasions because they're very conditional use knives, like ones from the Spyderco Salt series.

About 1 to 2%. Some are high end, some have tremendous sentimental value and I don't want them lost/damaged.

I always wanted to be one of those people who buys a $5000 knife and starts hacking stuff apart with it as soon as it arrives from wherever. Kinda like owning a Ferrari in Chicago - you just don't care. Hats off to 'em

OK, I respect that.
We just have completely different mindsets.
I'd rather use the $ to purchase something I actually need and will use.
I assume you have a lot more expendable cash than I do.
More power to you!

Interesting question. I have accumulated prolly 200 knives, Swiss Army Knives and multitools over the years, and in the vast majority of purchases I honestly believed I was going to use and carry the knife. I have, however, ordered many "spares" in case the supply dries up. [I know this is a sickness, and I am okay with that]. I don't consider my "spares" as safe queens, but that's just a matter of semantics.

Spares or safe queens?

LOL.......hey I didn't make the post to judge.

Not a safe queen or a closet queen, since I have no safe and there is no room to spare in my closet, but thanks to KnifeRights.org, I have acquired what might be called a virgin queen. The blade has never been used for anything yet, but she will soon lose her virginity to an edge-on-up PT50A sharpness tester:

Chris Reeve Large Sebenza 31. I have no idea what I might actually use it for, but I'm not going to carry it out in a sheep pasture.

Most of my other knives either get used or are backups in case something happens to one of my favorites. But sometimes I keep a knife that is so ridiculously bad that I would never use it again but it's interesting as an example of how not to design a knife, so I would call it a joker rather than a queen.

I only have a couple in the safe: but I might add a couple more...

If I won't or don't want to carry it I sell it and find something I want to carry and use, not a collector, just an enthusiast and try to keep folders at 5 or less, currently only have 3 with one on order and a fix blade. Might add another fix blade in the future.

About 3% to 4% of the total collection are users in regular rotation. I guess that qualifies the remaining 96% of the collection as "safe queens".
