What plans for 2024?

I saw the favorite knives of 2023 thread so I was wondering what are some of your plans for knives in 2024? Buy that elusive knife, thin the herd, collect a new style, use some of the old ones, use a new style, etc etc? I mentioned I just got a small Mora Eldris when I believed I would never get one because the blade was too short, but after actually handling one I felt it had good maneuverability, still short but i see how comforts it is now. So for 2024 I want to try it and my other Moras to test the scandi grind. Any thoughts for 2024?
 
I am selling/gifting some knives I don’t use, and buying some I really like.

I hope to take a knife-making class, and would like to start making some for myself as a hobby. It is inspirational seeing such great blades put out by members, and to see how supportive some of the makers are towards others.
 
Hopefully my CRK backpacker shows up. Otherwise, I plan on thinning the herd a bit, there are only about 4 knives that see regular carry so some i will give to friends and some i will sell.
 
I have 2 pre-orders coming in 2024, plus I have a BF member making a knife for me for work. I bought a number of knives last year so I need to buy one firearm in 2024. Then I think I will start saving money for a one off custom folding knife from one of the BF members.
 
I am thinking I need to enter into a holding pattern. I am thinking that I may need to thin the herd by selling off some of the stuff I don't use or carry often. Of course, it is always the impulse buys that get me
Edited to say that I am always holding out to see what the Case Vault pattern will be, and what the Forum knife is before I rule out any purchases 😁

You’re gonna like that.

There’s a tooling-up phase, but knowing I can make exactly the size and shape knife I imagine was a game changer for me. And further, if there turns out something I don’t like about it, I can make another better one.

There’s also not that many guys walking around my county strapped onto a knife they made, and I enjoy that aspect.

There’s a knife I’ve been wanting that’s supposedly dropping in a couple of days. The second it does, I’m buying it.

Thank you. I have been lurking on the makers threads and had a generous offer of assistance when I get started by one of the OG😀

I'm with ya.

I am realizing now that all the cash spent on toys is now drifting towards travel and/or experiences.

Also, I have all these great knives, but need to put more time and resources into doing more things that put them to use doing more fun stuff, rather than just work.
 
I try to keep my purchases to one folder and one fixed blade per year. More only if I sell something.
Right now I am happy with my fixed blade collection. So I might get two folders in 2024 instead.

I have a feeling Spyderco will eventually discontinue the OG linerlock Military, so I will buy one, JIC.
I always liked the look of the digi camo black DLC model and I promised myself I would buy one when I sold my PM2 in the same config.

And the other one will be an iMamba on PB washers and ironwood inlays. I just can't make up my mind about the flipper tab.
Yay, or nay?

Another drop I wait for is the SE Chaparral LW for a blade swap. Then I will sell the PE LW "byproduct".

I will get a set of AWT scales for my Magnacut LW Native.

I might sell my Sandrin Torino unless I get good at sharpening it.

I call bull on this one lol. But maybe I'm wrong.

Honestly, I'm reaching the end of the road when it comes to buying. Earlier this year I purchased an Alan Ravis custom from the exchange, a grail if you will. At the same time I ordered a Tasca 2 from R&H knives, and 8 months later I have it, and I feel my folder journey is pretty complete.

2024 is bringing massive changes to my life, so I'm holding on to my pennies as much as I can. I will probably be moving out of state by spring 2025.

In many ways it's an end of an era. The family business will be sold soon if all goes according to plan, and I will be working for the new owner. It means more money, but when I move I finally plan to buy a place, no more apartments, or living at home while recovering frok medical shit.

Basically, I'm making no knifeplans for 2024. Perhaps 2025 if the world hasn't exploded.
