What popular knives that you don't understand why

Why I oughhta....

You know I love you like Homer Simpson loves television (teacher mother secret lover)

Anything tanto, recurve belly, and sharpened prybars. Anything that gets marketed as tactical.

I wonder, do you have to go back every couple years to be recertified or does it come with a lifetime membership? :D

Lifetime membership as far as I know. Also includes a pair of pants several sizes too large for you.

Anything from Emerson. They're only living off of their name at this point.

Why would you intentionally run your steel too soft? They say its for "ease of sharpening" but if your willing to dish out enough money for an Emerson, then your probably already a knife enthusiast and don't have problems with maintaining an edge

ZT knives which are like carrying bricks plus I hate the way the blades look.

Same for me too. My friend has one, and I played with it a bit. He doesn't even use it. It's well made, but just not for me. They're all too big.

Oh, and Randall knives. None of those appeal to me, especially with the long ricasso. You're losing the best part of the blade for outdoor work.

those martins are some sexy looking blades. I settled for the apparo - boker - and I really dig it.

what gets a thumbdown? some here, some there...naming? Example: a Pingo in Mexico means a run-down horse, while in Puerto Rico it's slang for a man's Johnson. It is also a butt ugly knife by spyderco...

And I hope that Mantis don't really come with a lifetime MNM (mall ninja membership). While I dislike most everything (marketing strategies, tactical catering, ugly knives) I recently bought a Seymour and I liked it. Cheap, simple design, and the sheath secures the knife while allowing molle attachment to a bag. So yeah, can't entirely label a brand as horrible.

Unless it's a Dork Ops :D

I for one like semi's. I'm always in a hurry to get something whittled or cut and I usually use the serrations more than the smooth part. Or I at least start the cut with the serrations and finish the draw with the smooth. Inch for inch, the serrations don't play around.

So, go full serrated, que no?

I have never seen the point of combo edges. I have plenty of serrated blades, but they are fully serrated. I use them to cut stuff that I would not or could not cut with a plain edge. They work great for what I use them for. A blade with a few serrations just doesn't make any sense to me. Whatever you want to cut through cleanly keeps getting torn to hell by the serrations, and whatever you want to rip through with the serrations only gets partially ripped through because you run out of serrations... The guys in my neck of the woods that like combo edges tend to also buy a lot of "Jin-yooo-wine Boo-weee-knaffs" they see on infomercials just because they don't know any better. (Bud K obsessed rednecks - and that's not a jab at rednecks - I am one - that's a jab at Bud K obsessed rednecks) ;)

Interesting thread.

I wish I disliked as many knives as some folks in this thread. Unfortunately, with a very few individual exceptions, I happen to like knives of all ilk and that makes my bank account cry. If only I could develop a dislike for most knives then maybe I could afford a car - or food.....

:D

Well put Saintly, my love of knives is as broad as my love of music

pls stop before you hurt yourself, i hope you can do better tomorrow, today is shot and can not be recovered. I guess ATS 34 is also "soft" ????
I hope you do better tomorrow, especially when trying to be a derogatory smart-ass correcting some one else. For the non-analphabetic: I didn't state 154CM was soft. Emerson's 154CM is. He does that deliberately. And in case you still didn't get what I meant as a non-native speaker: it dulls quickly. I'm speaking of experience here.

Not really. Its that we all think the best knife in the world is "my knife" and the worst knife in the world is "your knife." :D

And so these threads always erupt. Invariably somebody gets bent outta shape.

Heck, I think we should go all "torches and pitchforks" on mjolnir74 for his blasphemous talk about Opinels! Of course, he's entitled to his opinion however ridiculous it is. :D

Good opinion :)

I don't like the CS Vaquero and I don't really like most SOG knives....the only SOG knife I want is a Seal Pup.

And honestly I don't like the Blur.

There are all sorts of knives I don't get. But that doesn't make them bad, just not for me.
