I was carrying my SAK Recruit today ... until I needed the not equipped on that model punch /awl to clean a turn signal light socket. My 4 blade "US" marked (on the handle, the knife was made in China) 100% stainless steel (including handle) Marbles camp/scout/utility/Demo knife replaced the SAK ... again.
Why did Victorinox have to use a pen blade instead of that ever so useful punch/awl???

You need a Pioneer :D

What is the appeal of SAK models that lack back side tools?

The Small Tinker and Tourist have the same front side tools as your Recruit, are the same size as your Recruit, but also have two back side tools including the awl that you wanted.

For that matter, what is the appeal of carrying a SAK that regularly lacks the tool you need? That's why they have so many different SAK models: pick the combination of tools that best suits you :)

I bought the Recruit at Wally World. Wanted the Tinker/Super Tinker, but they were out. :(

I have a nice SAK at home (in Idaho, I thoght I would only be gone a week, not 4 years and counting when I left, so like a idiot, I left it home.) not sure what model, or if Victorinox or Wenger. Has both scizzors and saw, back tools has the punch and cork screw. No pen blade.

Did mot see the one I have on the Victorinox website.

Eventually I'll get a Super Tinker and/or Farmer and/or Hunter and/or Pioneer.

Google for "sakwiki wenger forester". From your description, that's probably the SAK you left at home. Nice knife. I have the Classic 18 which is almost the same thing but trades the corkscrew for a screwdriver.

I'm not aware of any Victorinox models that have 3+ layers but lack a pen blade, so whatever you've got is almost certainly a Wenger.
