What scares you the most?

Ticks I hate them; this weekend I was out and I swear I got attacked by little seed ticks. People make me nervous I have found the remains of a meth lab while I was out. I sleep open because I feel like a tent makes it to easy to sneak up on me. The USP .45 compact goes out with me. Depending on were I am going the M1A might join us. I have seen some evidence of poachers a time or two. So my biggest fear is probably people, but ticks are a close second.

You carry a USP and your last name is Fletcher. We might be related! hahaha. My name is Dylan Fletcher. I carry the USP .40

I'm with Troop. Assworms (can I call them that here?). Hands down. The thought of some nasty little worm hooking on to my insides and taking up residence in my colon frightens me in a way that lions and tigers and bears just can't. As an undergrad Invertebrate Biology really put a damper on my appetite that semester. To a lesser extent leeches and spiders as well. Oddly, it isn't the big hairy spiders that frighten me the most, it's the little bulbous squishy ones. They're just so darn gross I can't even stand looking at them.

I love snakes and other reptiles, amphibians, even rats (once you get past the scaly tails and ginormous testicles they're pretty cute and they make great pets). I'm not a big fan of the squishies though.

Out west here the number one concern is illegals guarding marijuana crops. Number two is mountain lions.

Hillary Clinton becoming president

followed closely by becoming the chew toy of a large toothy carnivore

right after that getting thrown in a cell with a very large guy named Bubba that winks at me as the cell door shuts

Thank's a real nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:barf:

My number one fear in the bush is getting back to the truck and finding the battery dead. I try to always park it facing downhill just in case. But sometimes no hill is available and I get worried.

Other than that I don't worry much in the bush...usually too far out to see people, but even if I do...jeez, you'd have to be pretty brave to go rampaging through my camp. I am very confident in both my shooting and my burying abilities! And I am rarely far from a gun, not that I expect to use one (least of all out in the bush!)

I am more afraid of serious accidental injury because I am not very good at managing shock. I would be concerned about driving if I was very mangled. When I chopped my hand apart last year in an industrial accident I felt pretty queasy and would not have wanted to be driving myself to the hospital...although in general I find that a bit of distraction has done pretty well for me in the past so I guess I would be in decent shape to drive.

OTOH my truck is a standard...better not lose a leg!

Funny story that I might have told here before - my dad is in his late sixties I think. He is a tough old guy, worked as a prospector and lived in the bush a lot. Doesn't care for people at all but is pretty devoted to his dog and my mom. I would say everything else (including the kids) is a way distant second.

Anyway he got his leg a bit crushed in a rockslide while out in the bush by Copper Mountain, BC, where he grew up. This was a few years ago.

Anyway he is crawling back to his car something like eight kilometers out. Stopped, resting, a woman comes by on a horse. It turns out they lived in the same mining camp as kids and know each other a bit. They talk and after a while, off she goes riding. My dad doesn't mention the crushed leg, crawls the rest of the way out, and gets in the car and drives home, to see my mom and assure her he is fine. His home was a nine hour drive away...including a two-hour ferry trip (he stayed in the car.) Then he drove to the hospital.

So there you go. It is totally possible to require hospitalization (which he did) and yet drive for a day to run a pointless errand which could be achieved over the phone, and to feel relaxed enough about your chances that you feel imposing on someone you know slightly is worse than crawling a few miles with a partially crushed leg.

So take heart...injuries in the bush are not so bad after all!

1. Having a run in with a rabid coyote, or raccoon.
2. I always have a bit of nervousness about the possibility of a tree or a large branch falling on me while I'm sleeping.
3. I'm always a little concerned about the possibility of broken bones or a sprain bad enough to keep me from walking, but I'm really scared of something major like bleeding that I can't stop, or a head wound that knocks me unconscious or unable to think straight, or anything bad enough to affect any major organs.

Of course, none of this keeps me out of the woods. I just take what precautions I can and try not to do anything unnecessarily risky, especially when I'm out by myself.

you do realize those "chupacabras" are just chinese cresteds(dog)
iw4c0045croppedcopyweb.jpg

The dogs in question are NOT a Chinese crested. they don't have crests, and the cranial structure is ALL wrong. CCs have a high pronounced forehead and around skull. the dogs in the picture have a much more elongated and streamlined head.

Im sure its just a dog too, but it is one crazy breed. Im supporting the dog / coyote / wolf hybrid theory.

Here in Michigan, we really don't have many nasty critters. The occasional Mississauga rattler, the rare tick, somewhat small black bears, and of course the two-legged type of ugly.

For me it would have to be hypothermia. I'm scared of thin ice, frigid water, and boating accidents.

I'd rather find myself alone in the north woods listening to coyote close in than find myself adrift in water cold enough to knock the breath out of you. I love being out on the water but at the same time I have an undeniable respect for it.

Some of my most memorable experiences have been made in a canoe or small boat. At the same time, some of my worst have also happened while on the water.

Hell yeah! Two reasons:

1) There is not much worse than hypothermia for killing people out having fun.
2) I love hearing coyotes and wolves howling when I'm in the bush! That's how you know you're out in the bush!

Wolves especially, so mournful sounding...gives me chills every time I hear them!

your right it looks more like a peruvian hairless

My biggest fear is something happening to my son (just turned 3). While children seem to be so indestructible, I'd just hate for him to fall off something, cut something, burn something, etc...

I've had nightmares about him getting severely hurt, to the point where I couldn't safely move him. So my only option would be to sit and wait. As horrifying as this is, it makes me always have backup plans, and someone else always knows where we are if it is just me and him.

Makes me want to become a doctor just so I'd know what to do.

For me its people but right next to it is my own imagination. I got sort of wild imagination and been known to scare my self S***less. But if i realy stop and think about it, there isnt much to be afraid besides people.
