What should a Bowie Knife be in 2026?

Grinding it right now. I had to get up to speed on 200 years of History before I tackled the endeavor.

Lot of different directions to go. I don't think any of them are wrong as long as it's quality and it looks cool of course.

Mostly I liked what James Keating, Bill Bagwell preached.

IMO , the modern Bowie should be able to conceal carried easily, and be multipurpose for utility, and a fighting knife as only secondary .

In this case, you're not wrong unless you're hunting pigs, in which case the bigger, the better.

Yep, not wrong but a lot of the things that make a bowie interesting and unique require the size and weight for the momentum and leverage with the flick of the wrist.

Seems counterintuitive but the larger piece requires less movement of the arm.

It can move from the wrist and carry the momentum from there.

Good excuse to buy more knives since they do different things.

In a totally permissive environment , with no legal or social concerns , where you can open carry without concern ...whole different matter .

In the woods , on my own land , I can open carry anything I please . Biggest Bowie I own can ride along .

Fairly often , I clear weeds and brush , with a Cold Steel Machete /Sword . Two handed . Thai Machete or Chinese War Sword Machete .

Nice size for reach and leverage . Enough weight on the Chinese to supply some inertial chopping power .

Either would make a pretty decent weapon .

Do I take them with me to town ? Do I want to lug them around for EDC ? No , got to carry lots of other stuff these days .

Most people probably won't actually carry a big / heavy Bowie routinely . Most won't open carry in public . Hunting , camping maybe .
