Tobii3,
Congrats on your decision....
What did you decide?

Hey Tobii3..Yes Spydie Military, with some change left..pick up the Moran Featherweight!
Now will that be plain or with cheese?

Or Microtech Socom, they are nice too.. But if your active you need the MILITARY...

Oh geez, now you all have gotten me wanting a Military badly! Sorry, I have to wait a little longer and scrounge up some cash (and a better excuse too).

- soon to be a "military" man (hopefully)

Spyderco Military CPM440V plain edge!!!

BUT:

Egads! I broke the cardinal rule of knifebuying. Guess who I "forgot" to tell? Yep. The wife. Called home today and got the riot act. Well, I'm still getting my new Military. Just had to apologize almost the entire conversation.

Just a note, here. If you order a knife, use a money order, NOT your credit card. They called to verify my home address before they shipped it to an APO address. And, of course, my wife answered. $#@&!! I call home, and the first thing she says? "oh, so-and-so called about your knife". What was I supposed to say? Did I think about all the topics in the forums about "she who must be obeyed"??? Heck no. First rule, wives do NOT like surprises, unless it's for them. ARGH!!

But hey, I get my Military in a week or two. I don't see my wife until June. Hopefully she'll forget about this......

OKAY here is what I would get based on my recent passed experience. An Axis, hopefully it will be sharp when you get it, a Spyderco C16 it will be sharp when you get it, and then I would visit the Double Edge Forge link that was posted by myself and CougarAllen I believe, there I would opt for one of his belt knives. Right around 45 bucks delivered. These are period forged knives from files. Convex grind and kind of rough looking but excellant edge retention and the way he makes them is a hoot. Hardens the blade edge with hog fat, and then draws the temper back on the spine by heating up a piece of pig iron red hot and then resting the spine on the ignot and looking at the color he gets in the spine. He then shaprens to a convex edge on a foot operated trundle stone. Got my belt knife about 10.5" long from him and just ordered another today for more generic use. That should just about do the 200 bucks. 3 great knives to boot.

Hey! I made Senior Member! How the heck did I go from diapers to Depends in a couple of days???

Longbow, The Goddard is a nice knife, but, I don't like lockback knives. The Axis was in the running until the end, when I realized that I had absolutely no experience with the lock on it. Everyone has their opinion on it being "the bomb", but, I am, as they say, a creature of habit. A liner lock is fine by me for all uses. Thanks for the suggestions!

Tobii3,
Congrats on your selection....I had to laugh at your misfortune with the missus. I feel your pain, my brother! Been there, got slammed for that. The most current line I hear now is, "This knife thing is wearing a little thin".

I was a pretty honest husband before this knife bug bite. Now I twist words like a Philadelphia lawyer!

Oh well.....whatever it takes!

tobii3,
I doubt your wife will forget. Once you get home I bet she will want to see the $100.00 knife(or whatever you paid). But June is a long time away, maybe she will forget. No telling. Good luck.
