What should I do about this transaction?

Thanks for the discussion, guys. It was helpful. The negative he received for a prior transaction also helps me come to a conclusion. As far as this transaction goes, I'm going to move on. I haven't decided if I will post a bad buyer thread. I think a lot of people just check iTrader feedback before selling to a buyer. Also, I don't want to start another active discussion. I do think ndeezl has a good point. In that example, money or goods has exchanged hands. Which is somewhat different. But also, I think that much much more is expected of sellers than buyers. Personally, I think buyers should be equally accountable. For the most part, I have had good experiences buying/selling/trading on Bladeforums. And I view many of the members here as friends. I don't know the buyer in this instance. I hope he is well and I hope another seller doesn't find himself in the same situation.

I really think you should give us this guys name. It'll alert the rest of the community who to watch out for.

I wish I understood this...

It's very simple.

ITrader Feedback system is to be used only for completed transactions.

The Feedback forum is for this sort of thing. The suggestion is to start another thread or modify this one to indicate the person that did not submit payment.

Easy right?

This however raise the question of what is considered a "completed deal". If I send a guy $100 for a knife and he never sends me anything that's not a "completed deal", but I'm definitely gonna leave negative feedback. Bit of a grey area that could use more definition if you ask me.

Clarification: if you agree on a deal (as in the OP's case) but no one sends anything, it is not a completed deal. No money or property changed hands. Still, reneging on a written agreement to exchange property or money for property is grounds for a notice in FEEDBACK that one party's word is not reliable.

If either party does send the agreed money or property, the other is obligated to follow through, or negative iTrader feedback is a valid response.

Even if something bad happened in his life it does not prevent a quick communication stating so. How long does it take to shoot off an E-mail or PM and say "sorry, gotta back out of deal, my beta fish was gang-raped and has died."

Communication is the key..............

I did not know this subtlety. Thanks for the clarification and i'm glad I saw this thread.

how come you dont take paypal, its much faster and safer then cheques. I would relist the knifes although i wouldnt leave negative feed back as your not able to get in to contact with him and who knwos, perhaps he is trying to get in to contact with you but some stupid computer thing happened and he cant find you.

I never said that I don't take PayPal. I do take PayPal. The buyer asked to pay by Cashier's Check or Money Order and I accepted his request. It's possible that payment by mail was an excuse to stall payment but I've also had others pay promptly by mail.

I understand your point but since he doesn't appear to be currently making more offers in sale threads, I'm reluctant to post his name. Public humiliation on "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!" seems a little harsh to me. And on the off chance that he has some personal difficulty, it would be in poor taste. iTrader seems a little more tactful since only prospective buyers/sellers would check the feedback but money/goods did not exchange hands in this case.

That is truly hilarious, made me laugh out loud. :D

I found out who it was with a minimal investigative effort. They are now on my ignore list, which is a GREAT tool to keep track of those with whom one does not wish to conduct business.

I found out too. he has done this same thing at least 5 times where people left negative feedback. Just realist them your not out anything. you made substantial effort to contact him about the deal. IF the money shows up send him the money back. problem solved.

I've added him to my ignore list as well.

Looks like he sells here on BF (at least he did until his Gold expired).

I was reluctant to post his name when I thought he had just one negative on iTrader. But one of the more internet savvy forum members pointed out that the iTrader summary only shows the last 12 months and he actually has 5 negatives total for pretty much the same thing if you look at all of his iTrader feedback. In this case, I think the negatives on iTrader are helpful even though the deals weren't completed. But I will follow instruction and refrain from using iTrader since money/goods did not exchange hands. His user name is "Wicked Sharp". I'm providing the user name only because it may help others avoid problems. I've moved on.

I've never left a negative before and would prefer to keep it that way but I suppose the feedback system is only useful if people report when transactions aren't completed as promised. In general, it seems much more is expected of the seller than the buyer. I'm on the fence. He does actually have a negative as a buyer within the last 12 months: "Said 'I’ll take it', gave excuses with no payment for 10 days, cancelled."

It looks like he actually has several feedbacks to this effect. The guy is a habitual welcher. :thumbdn:

It seems that several people have left feedback for welched deals, so why can't the OP. I think it's warranted in this case, the guy does it a lot.

He wasted a lot of your time,so a neg may be needed. It would be nice if there were a neutral one could leave if you were not out anything.
