Upon finally getting my KA-BAR knife from UPS. (after waiting 13 days for it)

I opened the Box and found that I received the wrong knife / model.

Funny was that the invoice even said the correct model but they ended up giving me a different one.

I originally ordered a Full Size KA-BAR Tanto (model # 1245)

but instead received a 7" Next Generation KA-BAR, Serrated Edge.

The price on the website says:

KA-BAR Tanto $96.96
KA-BAR Next Generation $115.57

I was pretty mad and confused. The tanto looks great and I was really looking forward to getting it, but they randomly sent me the wrong product! The Next Generation KA-BAR looks like crap but it's more expensive.

The KA-BAR Tanto is made out of 1095 Cro-Van.
The KA-BAR Next Gen is made out of 440A Stainless Steel.

The question is, Should I return the Next Generation and trade it in for the knife I want? or just keep it, and be happy that I got a more expensive knife? (but has a horrible appearance, sorry I just adore the black finish on the tanto)

Find the knife nut on here who ordered the knife you got and got yours instead and trade.

Or, in the real world, call the place you ordered from and get the knife you wanted and paid for.

Ordered from the KA-BAR website sadly.. And they make YOU ship it backand wait 2-3 weeks for "processing" returns. :(

440A is pretty crappy steel. It might be ok for a stainless fixed blade that will be chopped and beat against things. But it's not going to hold an edge very good.

The 1095 has the potential to be really good with a good heat treat. Although most knife knuts grow out of tanto and coated blades pretty quick.

I would get what you want. Actually I would get a drop or clip point version of what you want. Most tend to not use something that they are not completely happy with so might as well get what you are going to be happy with and will use.

I would return it for the knife that you really wanted in the first place. Give them a call, maybe they can expedite things for you on this matter.

contact customer service where you ordered the knife and tell them you got the wrong one in your order.
have your shipping invoice in hand, because they'll want info off of it.
they should send you the correct knife, and may tell you to keep the incorrect one, or they may send you a shipping label so you can ship it back to them.

good luck!

Thankyou for your advice!

But I highly doubt they'll tell me to 'keep the incorrect one'.

So aside from this matter of getting the wrong knife, what's better?

1095 Cro-Van or 440A Stainless Steel?

i would agree that 1095 is better. you see a lot of cheapo knives with 440a. 1095 blows 440a out of the water IMO

Why would you say that about 1095?
I'd be interested in the experience(s) that led you to this conclusion.

 What conclusion? I'm saying it's a commonly used carbon steel for fixed blades of that size. There are worse and there are better. Huh?

This deal went bad, so I moved it to FEEDBACK. I strongly suggest you contact them, explain they sent you the wrong knife and you want the knife you ordered.
